It was as if the tension would never end - but finally, eventually, painfully... Dec announced Paul Potts as the Britain's Got Talent winner.
It was a moment where futures were made and dreams were dashed. But even though every one of the performers here has an outstanding talent, only one could scoop the big prize tonight.
Two million votes were cast by the British public. For the big winner, welshman Paul Potts, tonight starts a week of newspaper interviews, magazine features and TV appearances. Life won't be quite the same ever again.
As Ant and Dec congratulated the singer - or was that held him up - he told them - "I can't believe I've won it - I'm like jelly. Performing for the Quen means absolutely everything. Thank you for believing in me".
The man Simon Cowell described as "a shy and humble guy with a great talent" will now "be in the recording studio next week making his first album".
As well as the £100,000 prize cheque, the Britain's Got Talent winner recieves an invitation to perform at the Royal Variety Performance, by invitation of her Majesty the Queen.
The Royal Variety Perfromance will be shown on ITV1 on December 3rd 2007. We'll see Paul, our very deserving winner, taking their much deserved place in the spotlight then.
For the opera singer - indeed, for all of the finalists on stage tonight - have proved it - Britain's Got Talent. It's may be kept hidden, it might be a secret. But it's out there. Paul can sing. What can you do?
Simon says he'll be in a recording studio next week!

Paul Pott won? Wow, I totally figured Leopold II would get it.
Being Cambodian has its advantages.
LOL, I wasn’t sure if people would get the remark. That’s a funny response.
I can't help but wonder if he would have been booed by the audience in the first round if he had appeared on America's Got Talent.
Paul Pott. It didn't even click until you posted this LOL. Thanks!
Oh, good. What a talent.
Good grief! Can’t I even get away from trashy tabloid TV on here? :(
Fantastic! Kudos, Paul.
As for the writer of this article, you failed to correctly spell ‘received’ and [Gasp!!!] Queen.
Saw a few Freepers over at the youtube site. I have been just astonished by the way this humble man has touched so many people around the world.
I did not expect to hear this kind of voice coming from this man.
I saw the fear in his eyes. When he hit those high notes, you could just see the change in him.
Goosebumps..or goosepimples as they say in England.
It was Simon who put together the Il Divo group. I think he will make Paul a mega star. I think Simon was near tears at the end.
I don’t know much about opera but he sounds very good to me.
I have had several in my family and church watching these threads and emailing youtube links all over.
Great job. This has been the first “Idol” type show that I have watched in many years. Clean, refreshing, does not seem staged at all.
Between Connie Talbot and Paul Potts I bet this show scored very high ratings in Britian.
Look at the youtube hits and this show will be recreated across the globe.
bump for later
Yes, and I spelled Britain wrong!!! OOPS!
I’ll certainly be buying his first CD. Congratulations to Mr Pots.
Good grief! Did you even bother to look at the link? :-(
We often talk about the fall of Western civilization here. So far, we only talked about the demographic change and violent efforts by Islamofascist. Little attention has been given to the change in culture. I find it positive that an opera singer won a popular British TV 'reality' show. It means, at least to me, the Britts have not forgone their cultural roots.
Check out the links posted here. I think you’ll change your mind.
I don’t watch much on TV. I think I’ve seen all of a total of 5 minutes of American Idol ever. This guy is a true Cinderella story. It is very deserved. He has an amazing talent.
Look at the links. I think you’ll be surprised.
Super Congratulations, Paul. You deserved it.
Darn it. Ya beat me. ;-D
Bravo to this wonderfully talented man. May he go to the top of his career.
You should have a warning to “first get tissues”!
What a darling - and definite future winner - next time with two front teeth
That guy was amazing! My wife and I had goosebumps hearing him sing. Astonishing - even Simon had his mouth open.
Nice.:)
Did he only sing twice? Nessun Dorma and Time to say Goodbye?
Ping - for your enjoyment, in case you missed it.
WHO made YOU click on this THREAD?
No, he sang 3 times (Nessun Dorma twice). For the final, he had time to sing the entire aria I think. (The 6 year old Connie also sang a previous song.)
Thanks. I’d hear that he won, but I hadn’t seen the performance. What an incredible talent.
They were both outstanding, but Paul Potts was just phenomenal! That is a difficult song to sing and even though you could tell he was nervous at first, he just NAILED it the rest of the way!
Heh, yes it was; played when the bad guys got their just rewards.
He’s got a long way to go to reach these tenor gods:
