"Arctic Tale" puts faces to global-warming threat [ "Marx of the Penguins" Alert! ]

SILVER SPRING, Maryland (Reuters) - A new movie showing young polar bears and walruses struggling toward adulthood in a melting Arctic puts a pair of charismatic faces on the global warming threat.

"Arctic Tale," produced by the company behind "March of the Penguins" and narrated by singer-actress Queen Latifah, depicts the lives of female polar bear cub "Nanu" and female walrus calf "Seela" from birth to parenthood. The characters are composites of animals filmed in the Arctic over 10 years.

Nanu and Seela are shown facing life-and-death challenges made greater by an Arctic climate which changed dramatically during the filming and inspired the movie's theme, said Adam Ravetch, who directed the film with his wife, Sarah Robertson.

-SNIP-

The success of "March of the Penguins" and of former vice president Al Gore's global-warming movie "An Inconvenient Truth" have shown that films with a strong nature or environmental theme can have a big box-office and political impact.

-SNIP-

Robertson said it would have been impossible to tell the story without using composite characters because of the difficulty of trying to follow an individual animal in the Arctic for the eight-year cycle shown in the film. She said of Nanu and Seela, "To us they represent the very best of their species."

The scenes were genuine -- gathered during the two or three days a month that were suitable for filming, Ravetch said. "Everything you see in the film, we observed. It is also backed up by scientific facts."

In other words, it's a total fabrication. Fiction.

"Global Warmarxists" are working overtime with their sinister agenda... trying to get it in before the 2008 election.

Above is a polar bear attempting to evolve into a dolphin--- because evil, man-owned, capitalist cows are trying to drown him with greenhouse gases.

Isn’t it incredible how much mileage can be got out of one half degree of temperature increase?

Well, I had my doubts about Global Warming but with an atmospheric scientist with the reputation of Queen Latifah coming down on the issue I guess I’m convinced. I should have listened to Professor Algore. I’m (sob!)...so...ashamed...

"Nanu"

The eskimo "Nanook of the Arctic" perished from global cooling soon after his movie was made in the early 1920's. Too few carbon credits, I suspect.

The movie also shows the lighter side of Arctic life. In one scene, there is a resounding chorus of walrus flatulence, brought on by days of gorging at a clam bed.

Wow! A resounding chorus! Won't that be fun?

Check out this word: SUBLIMATION. Also, ice dissolves in water ~ it’s constantly dissolving and freezing in the zone between water and ice. The rate of freeze/thaw can change depending on exogenous factors ~ e.g. air temperature, warmer or cooler sea currents, etc.

If you are in the mood for a bit of fun annoying the rubes, go to your local video store and ask for the sequel to ‘March of the Penguins’ - ‘April of the Penguins’...

I am familiar with the word SUBLIMATION, which has probably been occuring there for as long as there has been an arctic.

If you do the set-up right it’s good for over an hour’s entertainment.

Look sincere. It is important that you start with: “I’m looking for the sequel to...” That’s a phrase that instantly turns off any cognitive abilities they may have had up to that point.

Follow them around the store as they look for it, swearing that it’s new and you just heard about it.

Have them check the computer. Again. Ask them to look in the back...

Saw this trailer this afternoon when we took the 2 & 8 year old grandchildren to see “Surf’s Up”, which was a very funny animated penguins-as-surfers movie. The “Arctic Tale” movie trailer was engaging, but the political undertones jumped right out. I’d rather watch “Meerkat Manor” until someone tells me they are cmposite meerkats.

And just what did polar bears, walruses and penguins do the last time the climate warmed up? Methinks they used their animal instincts and boogied off to a place that was a little colder, or they learned to ADAPT to the changing climate.

Huh? If it is happening that fast, we need to be doing some serious partying. There is no time for anything else.

These people are slaves to their obsession with the use of gross hyperbole. This is way past absurd.

We've had 30 yrs of radical environmentalism, and we now have the cleanest air & water in recorded history. So, why are we now in a "Climate Crisis"?

There is only one conclusion--- the "Green Revolution" is destroying the Earth.

Too bad. If they just kept the politics out, they might have had a very nice little movie.

I’m among the minority of freepers who thinks the evidence as a whole suggests that man-made global warming is probably occurring. I don’t think I compromise my conservative credientials one bit by saying that. After all, we can’t take the principles given to us by Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Burke, Smith, Kirk, and Friedman and deduce that man-made environmental damage is impossible.

That said, I don’t like the way the global warming doomsdayers want to lecture us to death on the issue. It doesn’t help matters much.
