Obama finding new allies: Republicans
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 6/19/2007 | Jennifer Hunter

Posted on 06/19/2007 6:24:20 AM PDT by Mike Bates

There is an interesting phenomenon that has arisen over the last few months: a trend of moderate Republicans who want to vote for Barack Obama. It may seem counterintuitive, conservatives supporting a candidate who wants to tax the wealthy and embrace the conventions in the Kyoto Accord, but there is something in Obama's message about ridding politics of partisanship that is appealing to these Republicans.

He doesn't carry the baggage of a Hillary Clinton. He is new; he seems authentic -- although his connection to indicted fund-raiser Tony Rezko has made some previous supporters wonder -- and he has more gravitas than pretty boy John Edwards. The Republicans who like him may have supported John McCain in the past, but after eight years of the Bush White House they feel they can no longer support the Republican field. The idea of a congressional glasnost -- a harmonic nonpartisanship in Washington -- is an Obama goal they endorse.

Some of these right-wing Obama supporters are putative country club Republicans, hailing from areas similar to the North Shore of Chicago. Others are professionals who are disillusioned by the Bush administration's failure to develop a sound domestic policy to redress issues of health care and Social Security or to end the relentless war in Iraq.

Add to this the secrecy of the Bush administration, the Scooter Libby affair, the unfortunate choice of Alberto Gonzales as attorney general, the scandals of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, the Tom DeLays and Mark Foleys, and there remains an unsavory stew of problems for those once proud to call themselves Republican.

Obama has already shown he’s as partisan as any of them. But RINOs are easily fooled.

This is about the third time I've seen one of these "Republican for Obama" charades. Do they really think we are that dumb?

The over-riding meme of all of these pieces is that Barak is a middle of the road "uniter", who will bring the country together. Sheesh, have they not checked his voting record?

Also, of the three "Republicans" actually interviewed in the article (none of which are ever identified as actual REGISTERED Republicans, BTW), two admit to voting for Kerry in the last election!

Bull Crap. I want names.

This is just like the "Republicans for Kerry" garbage. You can find the oddity, yes...but there is no giant "B. Hussein Obama" sweep happening in the Republican party.

This so-called journalist is an idiot.

This was addressed last week. It seems at least a couple of these people ‘highlighted’ are professional bloggers, I doubt ever Republicans. The ‘kid’ that started the Republicans for Obama blog said on some old posts that he was a 75 year old African American.. then recently he started saying he was a 20 something..

IMHO, all a marketing gimmick..

Reporter endorses Obama, pushes his agenda, in news section of Chicago Sun Times. Free political ad for an inexperienced demagogue. I simply don’t believe a word of this. She made it up. It was an excuse to air her personal political beliefs while attempting to conceal her motives by filing it as a news story. Shame on this newspaper’s editors.

Forgot to say: “congressional glasnost” translated means Dems get their way all the time, Republicans shut up and bend over.

Well, in comparison to the Hildebeast I have spoken highly of Obama....in the same way that, in comparison to Malaria, I can speak highly of the common cold. So, I guess some lib who has overheard me, and not knowing the context, could say I support Obama. I would wager that is what this is all about.

The same folks wrote this nonsense about 2 months ago.

I doubt the veracity of it.

No doubt many PC guilty RINOs would amputate a limb to have a candidate of color to vote for just so they could say they did...

....but I doubt many could vote for neo-marxist Hussein.

for Barak HUSSEIN Obama(with appologies to JJ Cale and Eric Clapton):

If you wanna hang out youve got to take her out; Hussein.
If you wanna get down, down on the ground; Hussein.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; Hussein.

If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues; Hussein.
When your day is done and you wanna run; Hussein.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; Hussein.

If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on; Hussein.
Dont forget this fact, you cant get it back; Hussein.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; Hussein.

She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; Hussein.

Yeah, that whole "new tone" approach worked so well for W, I really trust Obama's message of ridding politics of partisanship.

This article is a flat out lie, total bunko. Will wait for the accompanying article from Jennifer Hunter about Guiliani or Thompson, or whoever, attracting “liberal” voters, but I know I will never see it.

I don’t think that there is any proof of what this woman is saying. I think it’s wishfull thinking and probably and article that originated from Obama’s think tank.

Not surprising for voters who don’t have a clue how this marxist idiot has voted during the course of his political career. Most voters listen to speeches but never think to assess past actions. go figure.

I would put these two in the same category. Thanks for stating the obvious. I still contend Obama is a muslim plant.
