Immigration Half-Baked
PBS Tavis Smiley Young Voices Blog ^ | June 15, 2007 | Rose Capozzi

Posted on 06/19/2007 12:27:56 PM PDT by politicodc

In America today there are an estimated 7 million illegal immigrants. Many say that these immigrants drive down wages for hard working Americans. Others say that they introduce new problems into our education system and drain resources from our entitlement programs.

Though the problems are [somewhat] clearly defined, the solution is not.

While I do not generally support the idea of giving special privileges to certain groups of people, especially ones who purposely and knowingly break the law, in this situation there is no other logical or practical solution. America is like a baker that has left a window open and put our irresistibly delicious American apple pie on the ledge to cool. And now that the attractive odor has caught the attention of the rest of the world, the sick, tired, poor and hungry are here and want to have a piece.

It might seem enticing to simply search for the illegals and send them packing, but the resources, time, and effort it would require is too great. The ball has already been dropped and now it is time to cut our losses and come up with a plan to prevent greater and continual abuse.

Though President Bush's bill is a step in the right direction, by rejecting business as usual, it needs to focus more on containing the problem - and preventing further illegals from breaking our laws. Now, if only Congress could find a way to have their pie and eat it, too...

From the site I posted above:
The American Journalism Center, an internship program devoted to training conservative student journalists, was established in order to counteract the entrenched left-wing elite in both the media and the universities. The AJC provides students with hands-on training in journalism, marketing, and public relations, with the goal of cultivating balance, accuracy, and excellence in the next generation of conservative leaders.

Rose is just a kid, an intern and a conservative. Sure, she’s off here, but she’s young and callow on this issue. Let’s give her a break.
President Bush is flipping a lot of conservative circuit breakers lately with his unholy wedding to Ted and Harry, but we shouldn’t throw such youngsters out with the bathwater because they use strained metaphors.

It might seem enticing to simply search for the illegals and send them packing, but the resources, time, and effort it would require is too great. The ball has already been dropped and now it is time to cut our losses and come up with a plan to prevent greater and continual abuse.

OK, lets drag in say 50,000 illegals and offer them this choice; return to Mexico or go to work for ICE as agents. If they round up at least 20 a month they stay on the payroll. When they have brought in 400 illegals total they get citizenship with all that offers.

Who says you can't deport 20,000,000? I expect that if you make an offer "you can't refuse" to enough people you will find more then enough willing to sell out their friends, citing "enlightened self interest". With this plan it would take less then two years and it has no impact on US "resources, time, and effort". Unless you count the illegals as a resource.

Regards,
GtG

I dunno, I just thought it was less than honest to try to conceal the real source of the piece, esp since it was so misguided or disingenuous........PBS and Tavis Smiley are all left

I agree completely. But I looked at some other articles she wrote on that site, not PBS/Smiley, and she looked legit.
I sure don’t like what’s going on now, this whole amnesty mess. It makes me sick.

“Though President Bush’s bill is a step in the right direction...”
From the article. Do you agree with this, that we need to have the shamnesty bill, and more?

KEEP UP THE FIGHT, DON'T GIVE UP. . As I predicted they would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

If she isn’t a lib, she is as close to a marginal conservative as I have seen. Do a poster search on her screen name, your zotdar will really go up.

Uh... No.

Quite possibly the DUMBEST analogy I’ve seen in... well, I’ve been seeing a lot of dumb analogies from amnestophiles, to be honest.

These illegals aren’t grabbing apple pie from the ledge, they’re breaking into the shop and stealing it from the fridge! There should at least be a slight correlation between the analogy and the real event you’re trying to describe, or it is a POOR analogy.

I need to pick up one of these jobs writing editorials. Must be nice to get paid for doing nothing but being a nattering idiot. Doesn’t seem like you have to have any real information, or education, or common sense.

Yeah, I screwed up and left my garage door open over night.

Actually, your analogy is not correct. You didn't leave the garage door open. It was left open by that irresponsible drunkard uncle you gave a spare house key to. Now, not only is he sleeping on your sofa, he is demanding that you let all his frieinds stay over too.

We THE PEOPLE did not tell tell our elected officials to not enforce the border, a few of their rich friends bribed them to do it. Now we are being told we can do nothing about it except to pick up the tab and keep our opinions to ourselves.

Rejecting business as usual?? It IS business as usual. What would be unusual would be to NOT give amnesty.

I agree with you— the first problem is that the window is wide open. Before anything else we have got to shut it.
