(On This Day In History) June 20, 1893 - Lizzie Borden Is Acquitted of Double Murder
Crime Library ^ | June 20, 2007

Posted on 06/20/2007 8:29:59 AM PDT by DogByte6RER

Lizzie Andrew Borden (July 19, 1860 – June 1, 1927) was a New England spinster and central figure in the brutal axe murders of her father and stepmother on August 4, 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Although acquitted on June 20, 1893, no one else was ever tried, and she has remained notorious in American folklore. The slayings, trial, and the following trial by media became a cause célèbre; and the fame of the incident has endured in American pop culture and criminology.

Dispute over the identity of the killer or killers continues to this day.

I understand that like O.J. Simpson, Lizzie is STILL searching for the real killers!

This thread would not be complete without the nursery rhyme...

Lizzie Borden took an axe

And gave her mother forty whacks.

And when she saw what she had done,

She gave her father forty-one.

Lizzie was quoted as saying,”If you axes me it was an axident!”

My favorite theory is that Lizzie was having an affair with the maid and when caught in the clutches, chased her step mother to the bedroom and chopped her up. She then waited for her father to come home and chopped him up. The ax handle and the clothes she was wearing were burned in the kitchen stove and the ax was dropped into the privy in the basement. She knew that the step mother was going to tell her father and that she, Lizzie, would have been kicked out of the home and disinherited.

Yeah...

I’ve heard or read something similar.

This thread just earned a “HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA” topic.

There was a novel in which this was the plot some years back.

Good theory, as Lizzie carried on a Lesbian affair with an actress named Nance O’Neill.

I think she hated her step-mother and killed her. She killed her father because he betrayed her in someway because of the step-mother. Something big had happened in this family bacause you would have to be enraged to do something like that.

Neither Lizzie Bordon nor Jack the Ripper ever owned a gun between them. That strikes me as interesting somehow or other...

Strictly speaking, we actually don’t know if Jack The Ripper owned a gun or not.

If he did he clearly viewed it as unsportsmanlike to use it for murdering people....
