GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul has been excluded from an upcoming political forum in Iowa on the grounds that he is not a "credible candidate.
The event, sponsored by Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance, is set for June 30 in Des Moines.
GOP candidates who will speak at the forum include Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson and Tom Tancredo.
But Paul, a Texas congressman, was left out because the invitation went only to those candidates who are "credible, said Ed Failor Jr., vice president of Iowans for Tax Relief.
"To plan an event of this scope, we invited credible Democratic and credible Republican candidates, he told the Des Moines Register.
"We had to draw the line somewhere.
No Democrats accepted the invitation.
The exclusion of Paul, an outspoken critic of the Iraq war, sparked protests from several Paul supporters, who sent e-mails to the Register calling the decision "evil and "fascist.
Pauls campaign chairman Kent Snyder appeared with Failor on an Iowa radio station and acknowledged that Paul has no Iowa campaign office. But he said: "Failors explanation is weak . . . People want to see Ron Paul.
I’m gettin’ some popcorn!
So sad, Ron Paul is exactly what you guys in the U.S. need to reclaim America.
The debate on the radio can be found here, about 3/4ths way through...

lol
Fred Thompson will fill the need!!
I’m not a fan of Paul because of his comments regarding Iraq and 9/11 and his desire to legalize drugs. I actually thought Ron Paul would run on a libertarian ticket.
The torch and pitchfork wing of the Republican Party will be greatly disappointed.
btw, here is the best, IMO, summary of the positions and opinions of Ron Paul:

Hard to find much to disagree with there... :)
How is someone being excluded from a private gathering “censorship”?
Well, at leat Ron Paul isn’t as blue as Papa Smurf. That’s gotta count for something! LOL!
We’ll trade him to you so you can “reclaim” your country. For a six pack of beer. It doesn’t even have to be cold.
it’s a start
No, Fred Thompson will no fill the need. He is not a vialbe candidate. He hasn’t even declared himself in the race, silly. :)
And he will not be in Iowa, missing yet another Republican debate. Perhaps he could hold one with Ron Paul? I’d probably watch that one over the the main debate. :P
lmao............man that was funny
Guy’s a goofball, but he provides comic relief. Stupid decision to exclude him.
>>>Im gettin some popcorn!<<<
Take it over to YouTube. Those boobs are going to going absolutely bonkers over there! :)
RP should be allowed to speak in Iowa....let’s face it though...he’s got a snowballs chance in a Texas summer to be the GOP nominee.....
If no Dems accepted then there is room. I say let him in.
Ron Paul? Who’s he? Is he related to Paul Bunyan?
So someone who strongly believes in low taxes and is a pro-life, anti-homosexual rights Republican is excluded from this event.
Is it polls?
Is it fundraising?
Is it just opinion?
And while I am not supporting Ron Paul, I would like to know what the criteria is for excluding someone, and why some of these "candidates" are going to be allowed.
Opposing NAU & foreign interventionism/nation building is comic relief?
What will the other Republicans talk about? How to expand the government faster than the other?
You actually had me laughing there.
:-)
The fact that the staff at NewsMax (evidently) don’t know the actual meaning of the word “censorship” speaks volumes as to their credibility — or, more precisely, to their lack of same.
Fred Thompson not viable? He’s at the top of the National polls, leads in several individual state polls and is raising money like a house on fire! You make me laugh with your nonsense...
It was intended as nonsense, silly. :)
But it is true that Thompson is not going to be at the debate. And I guess it’s also true that he’s not valid until he declares himself a candidate.
So I stand firmly behind the ironclad reason of my original message.
Fred Thompson is not a viable candidate. Thus, he will not be invited to the Iowa debate.
Really, I don’t see excluding him, he should have the opportunity to make his case. Personally, I think he is a nut, and his reasoning behind everything involves the constitution (His interpretation of course). I think he may have well been excluded because some of his supporters are 911 conspiracists etc, it’s not him, but he seems to draw them.
Can they also remove Gilmore, Brownback and Tommy Thompson while they’re at it? Please?!
I think Ron Paul ought to be included, but it’s their party, I guess, and they can invite who they want.
He’ll probably be in the booth again with Hannity & Colmes, above the fray; as a stateman rather than a political hack. He’s running a 21st Century campaign, while the rest of the dems and pubs run a 1992-style 20th Century one. Guess who’ll win?
No democrat accepted an invitation.
I have a problem with this actually, I’m not supporting Paul, but, I honestly think they are scared Paul if he performed well in a debate, could end up doing well in Iowa, and that scares the living well, manure, out of them
Bwahahahahahahahaha! Conservatives refusing to let Ron Paul debate because he is an embarrassment and “not a CREDIBLE candidate”. Ouch. Just what most of us have been saying.
>>>Hell probably be in the booth again with Hannity & Colmes, above the fray; as a stateman rather than a political hack. Hes running a 21st Century campaign, while the rest of the dems and pubs run a 1992-style 20th Century one. Guess wholl win?
<<<
I’m putting my money on Ron Paul?
He has truly run the First Space Age Political Platform Theatre.
No they are not ‘scared’ they felt they needed to draw the line somewhere. It’s humourous that Ron Paul is felt to be outside a line that includes Tancredo.
I was going to make a crack about Ron Paul being more ‘credible’ than John McCain but apparently McCain isnt going either.
For those who call it ‘evil’, ‘fascist’, ‘censorship’, etc. ... remember Ron Reagan’s line “I paid for the microphone”.
The Golden Rule of Debates: He who pays for the microphone gets to make the rules.
“anti-homosexual rights Republican is excluded from this event.”
Actually Ron Paul is against the Family Marriage Amendment, AFAIK.
If those without credibility are going to be eliminated, shouldn’t Guiliani be eliminated, too?
Ron Paul would be an entertainment break in the discussion.
It would be like having Lyndon LaDouche as a sideshow. Why not have Ahmadinejad there to support him, too?
Rep. Paul’s foreign policy and Mr. Giuliani’s social policies are opposite of mine, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to speak. Let the voters decide who is in and who is out when the primaries roll around.

Ron Paul Excluded in Iowa
Iowans for Tax Relief and Iowa Christian Alliance will host a presidential candidates forum on Saturday, June 30th in Des Moines. Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Sam Brownback, Jim Gilmore, Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson, and Tom Tancredo will participate.
Ron Paul, however, will not participate. Why? Because he wasnt invited.
We heard about this forum from numerous supporters in Iowa who asked why Dr. Paul was not going to participate. Those supporters assumed that Dr. Paul was invited.
The campaign office had not received an invitation so we called this morning; thinking we might have misplaced the invitation or simply overlooked it. Lew Moore, our campaign manager, called Mr. Edward Failor, an officer of Iowans for Tax Relief, to ask about it. To our shock, Mr. Failor told us Dr. Paul was not invited; he was not going to be invited; and he would not be allowed to participate. And when asked why, Mr. Failor refused to explain. The call ended.
Lew then called Mr. Steve Scheffler, president of the Iowa Christian Alliance, to talk with him. Mr. Scheffler did not answer so Lew left a message. He has yet to respond.
Why are the Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance excluding the one Republican candidate who scored at the top of every online poll taken after the MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN debates? Why are they denying Iowans the opportunity to hear from the Republican presidential candidate whose popularity is growing by the day?
We couldnt get answers to these questions from Messrs. Failor and Scheffler. Maybe youll have better luck. Their contact information is below.
It’s ironic that on the same day we learned the Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance excluded Dr. Paul from their candidates forum, we received a call from ABC News confirming Dr. Pauls participation in its nationally broadcast August 5th debate to be held in Des Moines.

Gov. Pataki Will Open Office In Iowa
“Mr. Pataki is to travel to Iowa on Friday to open an office in Des Moines for his 21st Century Freedom Political Action Committee, an antitax activist in the state, Edward Failor Jr., (executive VP of Iowans for “Tax Relief”) said.”
“Mr. Pataki could be a hard sell to small-government conservatives, given that state spending in New York has grown to a projected $75 billion in the coming fiscal year from $43 billion in 1995. Mr. Failor said the increases were the necessary result of growth brought on by aggressive tax cuts.”

Credible was the wrong word for them to use. Of course he has credibility. What they should have said, and likely meant, is that he was far too unlikely to compete with the other candidates.
That is not right. Although, I am don’t know much about Dr. Paul; this is wrong. Exclusion is getting to be way too popular.
Not a fan of the Congressman, but excluding him prima facie seems a bit of an overstep.
However, since has has no campaign going in Iowa, I could see the other side, too.
It’s all a dang plot by the CFR globalists, I tells ya!
