John Murtha: How a lifelong hawk became a dove, too
Veteran Congressman still champions military even though he opposes Iraq war
Sunday, June 24, 2007
By Jerome L. Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
His conversion on Iraq disgusts some former comrades.
"He's lost his nerve," said John Lockie, 73, who also served as a major with the 1st Marines in Vietnam and now lives near Fresno, Calif. "He's nothing more than a con man with a congressman's suit on."

Hey, I can do that!
Lots of mullahs’ moolah..
Senile dementia.
He was a big proponent of Lockheed-Martin, but the plant in Johnstown might be shutdown because of no buyers for the aircraft that is made there.
“Hawk? Dove? Who cares? SHOW ME THE MONEY!”
These days, the only difference between a con man and a congressman is five letters.
He sure has done a lot to support the Marines of Haditha </ sarc>.
Hey Smooth how you doing? Thanks for the Post!!!!...
USMC Major John Lockie. He da’man! I bet DEM Traitor John Murtha would never meet with Major Lockie.
DEM Traitor John Murtha never saw or heard the snap, crackle and pop of incoming musket fire! (A fact)
“Senile dementia.”
No. He is a crook who is diverting attention away from his criminal activities. Look at the leaders. Pelosi with her tuna, Reid with his land deals, Hillary with fundraising, Murtha with his contracts.
These people are using the Iraqi war as a way to take attention away from their behavior. And going after Gonzalez and Ashcroft weakened the justice department.
Hope all is well out your way!
He was a big proponent of Lockheed-Martin, but the plant in Johnstown might be shutdown because of no buyers for the aircraft that is made there.
Considering they don’t produce aircraft at the Johnstown plant, I’m sure they don’t have any buyers. They only manufacture parts for the C-130, C-5, F-16, P-3 and F/A-22 airframes
Correct, those parts are also made in the Clarksburg West Virgina plant.
Simple - he lost his genitalia in a horrible accident involving two men and a....
Nevermind.
Mr. Stokes(Col. Tom Stokes, who had served with the 1st Marine Regiment in Vietnam. who now lives in Charles Town, W.Va., ), 75, doesn't see it that way: "If I saw Jack, I'd tell him what I really thought about him. But I don't need to see it in the newspaper."
I love this excerpting, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette deserves to be quoted selectively when they deny FR or anybody else to post their full articles.Too hell with their puffpiece on murtha, they attempted "balance" in the article but have failed. It's obvious in reading the entire article, they were on a mission to bolster murtha.
No more nut sack. Poor Murtha.
"They won't be able to continue. They won't be able to do the deployment. They won't have the equipment, they don't have the training and they won't be able to do the work. There's no question in my mind." Here is my answer to John Murtha
"You are a senile old fool that shouldn't continue in your job. You don't have the brains to do your job. Your equipment is failing beyond repair. You ought to deploy yourself to a nursing home or a mental ward where your ranting can be kept under control. Your training is inept and needs to be upgraded but alas you just are not frankly worth the time, effort or money to invest in any longer. You just can't do the work anymore and need to realize what a joke you are. Step down before you disgrace this country any more then you have already done so. You are a traitor and a disgusting old fool. .There is no question in my mind that the above is completely true"...... ~Pandora~
As far as I know Lockheed is doing just fine here right now, They’re interlockerd with Concurrent Technologies, DRS Technologies on new and current military contracts and sitting pretty right now.
That’s good to hear. When I was there a few years ago, some of the plant workers were worried.
A friends wife works in the front office and haven’t heard anything bad going on there.
And lots of Soros moolah too. This shakedown artist is now getting more $ for taking orders from Soros than he ever made by skimming and taking kickbacks from military contracts so he's had an epiphany and become an anti-war and anti-military activist and Code Pink Commie lover. He's been a crook-for-hire to the highest bidder since the day he entered Congress.
I am to the point of thinking that all members of our congress & senate should be tested for alcohol, drug abuse & after a certain age dementia. If we the people can be tested in our everyday jobs then so should these people we vote to represent us. Some of them just are IMHO out of their minds. I really wonder what goes on in their heads. Shaking my head again...~P~
Sad to say that it doesn't matter what he did then, but what he does now. Three words, HADITHA and CODE PINK tell me everything I know about this a$$hole.
Due to redistricting he is now my congress critter and he also represents Lcpl.Justin Sharratt's family. I guess they could call him if they have concerns about fair treatment for their son and the other Marines.
Ya' thinK?
In 1966, I was a 2ndLt and was assigned to the ACOS, G-1 of the 1stMarDiv. During the summer of 1966 we relocated the Division CP from Chu Lai to Danang and settled in at the 3rdMarDiv CP and they moved their CP further north.
As I recall, the G-1 was Colonel "Mutt" Emils and he didn't even like himself (already had first pass over for 1*). This "clown" Murtha checked in and was awaiting his assignment interview with Colonel Emils and all he could complain about was he owned a car wash back in Pa and had to leave the operation of the car wash to family members and he would probably end up in bankruptcy court.
As a 2dLt the only sympathy I could give the poor guy was "Major, if you hadn't stayed in the Reserve, you wouldn't be here". I can assure you he got no sympathy from old Colonel Emils. End of story.
Fighting in Iraq means pig Murtha has less money.
Pig Murtha is a lying, greedy fraud.
He cares ZERO about the troops that he helps kill with his rhetoric.
He cares about money, money and more money.

Soon after the March 2003 invasion, however, he decided he had made a mistake.
Load of crap.
Murtha Supports Iraq Resolution with Reservations
WASHINGTON, DC, October 9, 2002 -- Congressman John Murtha today said he would vote for the resolution authorizing military force against Iraq despite a number of serious reservations.
Murtha said, Obviously we have reason to be concerned about Saddam Hussein -- theres no question that hes a real threat to us and we need to make sure hes not developing nuclear, chemical or biological weapons to use against us or against other nations in the Middle East. We also need to make sure that Iraq does not resume Afghanistans former role as the host nation for terrorist training camps.
But Ive urged great caution before we move forward with military action against Iraq. My concerns have been heard -- weve seen a major shift in the White House position, and the resolution that will come up before the House will address my two biggest concerns. The resolution will make clear that we need the support of other nations before we proceed, and that we need Congressional approval before we commit forces. So the resolution will demonstrate our national resolve to Hussein and increase the pressure on him to open the doors for full and unfettered inspections, he said.
The concerns previously expressed by the Congressman are:
That it could sidetrack our war against terrorism. We rely on intelligence from sources in the Middle East, and if we go to war against Iraq without support from the region, wed disrupt our intelligence network.
That a war there would require at least 200,000 troops and would cost at least $40 billion. If we go in alone, we'll pay the whole cost ourselves, both in terms of dollars and lives.
That we need strong support from neighbors of Iraq in order to have an area from which to land and refuel aircraft, to launch our attacks and so on.
And that Iran is just as big as Iraq and in many ways just as unstable. Right now, Iran and Iraq tend to balance each other out and Iran has been relatively quiet. But if we destabilize Iraq, that creates a big opening for Iran to start throwing its weight around in the region.

Note to hapless LAT publisher Jeffrey Johnson: Instead of reviving Robert Scheer's dormant career by firing him, or having your telemarketers boast that you've extirpated liberal Michael Kinsley's insidious influence, why not pay attention to the bias on the pages people actually read--like the embarrassing deception in the second paragraph of Friday's front-page, two-column-headline lead story, which seemingly proclaimed that "no Democrat was a firmer ally" of Bush's war against Saddam than Rep. John Murtha, when in fact Murtha had been a critic of the current Iraq war in 2002, before it started? Funny how those propagandistic mistakes in the news pages never get made in a pro-Bush direction, isn't it? ..

As for the PG, if it wasn't for Jack Kelly, I'd never read that rag.
murtha is certifiable,IMHO, quite frankly, I believe it's worse than that. He just doesn't care anymore, if he ever did.
I believe it. Has the ring of truth to it.
Ain't no doubt about it.
Kelly is good.
I won't give Pravda at the Point my 4 bits. I may pick it up in the lunch room but someone's already taken the hit.
The rap on the US is while our military might is overwhelming our political will is weak...
It that weak political will that keep the enemy fighting, that draws the attack, that give the enemy hope, that get our people killed.
John Murtha and his like are that weak political will, the weak point in the line, that gets our people killed
John Murtha and his like are the what the enemy's of our country count on
He’s a Hawk only when a “D” is in the White House.
Doh! My link didn’t work. Anyway, the article is up on newsmax.
I’m sure he was all gung-ho for Billy’s “Wag the Dog” war on Yugoslavia.
Along with your alcohol, drug and sanity testing, I would recommend we add a check of offshore bank a/c's to the list. I think you may be too kind to them, and I would suggest that a lot of the insane stuff they support can easily be explained by many, perhaps even most of them, being on the take.
He’s a partisan hypocrite. There is no way he can reconcile his Vietnam War views with his current Iraq war views.
I don't know who's more full of crap, murtha or this Sherman who wrote this puff piece. Murtha has watched too many John Wayne movies if he really said that. On second thought, I don't think I ever heard John Wayne say anything quite so stupid as that in any of his movies.
Thanks for the ping smooth, wish I'd have gotten in on the thread earlier.
Bingo!
I skimmed the article, and there was a glaring gap in this history:ABSCAM
We need to remind people that he was also a supporter of Charlie Wilson's (House, Dim, Texas) vote that saved his hide, and his support,in return for the favor, for Wilson's program to arm Hekmayter in Afghanistan.
Evidently Murtha found the sugardaddy he sought back then.
