Chavez Predicts Resistance War With U.S. Published: 6/24/07, 10:45 PM EDT By CHRISTOPHER TOOTHAKER CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - President Hugo Chavez urged soldiers on Sunday to prepare for a guerrilla-style war against the United States, saying that Washington is using psychological and economic warfare as part of an unconventional campaign aimed at derailing his government.

Dressing in olive green fatigues and a red beret, Chavez spoke inside Tiuna Fort - Venezuela's military nerve-center - before hundreds of uniformed soldiers standing alongside armored vehicles and tanks decorated with banners reading: "Fatherland, Socialism, or Death! We will triumph!"

"We must continue developing the resistance war, that's the anti-imperialist weapon. We must think and prepare for the resistance war everyday," said Chavez, who has repeatedly warned that American soldiers could invade Venezuela to seize control of the South American nation's immense oil reserves.

U.S. officials reject claims that Washington is considering a military attack. But the U.S. government has expressed concern over what it perceives as a significant arms built-up here.

Chavez - a close ally of Cuban leader Fidel Castro - told soldiers the Washington was trying to weaken and divide Venezuelan society, including the armed forces, without resorting to combat.

"It's not just armed warfare," said Chavez, a former army officer who is leading what he calls the "Bolivarian Revolution," a socialist movement named after 19th-century independence hero Simon Bolivar. "I'm also referring to psychological warfare, media warfare, political warfare, economic warfare."

Under Chavez, Venezuela has recently purchased some $3 billion worth of arms from Russia, including 53 military helicopters, 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles, 24 SU-30 Sukhoi fighter jets.

Last week, Chavez said he is considering arms purchases, including submarines and a missile-equipped air defense system, as he prepares for a tour of Russia, Belarus and Iran.

"We are strengthening Venezuela's military power precisely to avoid imperial aggressions and assure peace, not to attack anybody," he said Sunday.

Certainly sounds like Chavez is intending to invade the United States.

There's a long history of this sort of thing ~ for thousands of years South American Indians would invade/migrate up the Antilles to Florida and the Gulf, and then push North to the Tennessee River where they'd usually get stopped, then pushed back.

Chavez should put down that crack pipe. Spending too much time alone smoking crack leads to delusional paranoia. Now I don’t know what he can do about the ‘alone’ part, except work on his personality so that someone may actually befriend him (besides dingbat activists)

Ah yes, the refuge of the failing dictator.

El Jefe says, “We are failing, not because I have totally derailed the private sector, but because of the nefarious influence of outsiders. Death to outsiders.”

Are you a short-timer, Hugo?

Just how happy are the people of Venezuela
as you go all out socialist?

Do you think the Venezuelans are reall happy
that you are buddy-buddy, palsy-walsy with
Ahmadinejad of Iran?

You must be sweating by now, Hugo...looking
over your shoulder, wondering if your military
likes you, respects you....

Yep, these are troubled times.

All Hugo has to do is send 5 million troops to the U.S.A. and Bush, Graham, Kennedy, Reid, Lott, Kyl and McCain will give them permanent resident status with the Z-visa.

Yeah, I’m using hyperbole. But how do we know several enemies HAVEN’T inserted more sleeper cells disguised as lettuce pickers?

Anybody think they haven’t been exploiting that gaping hole on the Southern border?

I’ll tell you right now what venezuela is really thinking about.

Look at a map of south america. Those three little countries just to the right of chavez are european colonies. Venezuela finds their existence offensive and has long dreamed of absorbing them.

How do I know this? I used to have a friend from venezuela. She went on a big rampage one day telling me how stupid it is that those three little countries are allowed to exist when everyone knows they are part of venezuela and were taken from venezuela unfairly by the european imperialists.

I was dumbfounded. This was not a politically minded individual. I’m sure she was merely parroting things she’d heard many times over many years.

Oh, she also beleived brazil was a kiss a$$ to the US and that they should be forced to speak spanish in brazil.

My sentiments exactly, what with the latest commentary by Vladimir Putin. I often wonder whether we’re reliving the years 1933-1937 when it seemed like all the heads of the civilized world were stuck up their respective posteriors, the world was stuck in a depression, and thugs everywhere were bullying everyone with impunity. It could certainly turn that way again if we let it, but while Putty, Chavez, and a number of other prominent criminals talk big, they come off as being not only scared but paranoid. I have little hope for the political leadership in the US and Europe, but someone in this part of the world must be doing something right.

At that point, 170 million Brazilians said, "Oh yeah, you and what army?!"

I know quite a few Brazilians, and they're great people; very pro-American and hard working. Portuguese is also a beautiful language, much more pleasing to the ears than Spanish. It has similar vocabulary to Spanish but flows like French.

I thnk you are right. Why? Because “...Venezuela has recently purchased some...53 military helicopters, 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles, 24 SU-30 Sukhoi fighter jets.” This wouldn’t slow the U.S. down by an hour but it sure would be enough to win against any of the other three and make trouble for Brazil.

Fascinating.

There’s zero chance of the US attempting an invasion of Venezuela. But Chavez is getting ready, just in case.

On the other hand, we might actually invade Iran (although the chances are clearly less than 50%.) So the Iranian leadership today stated there was zero chance of a US invasion.

Go figure.

Its pretty obvious whats going on... Fidel Castro’s death is immenent. Once he goes, so does his country.

Putin needs another Cuba in the region. Hence Venezuela. A few Russian Military advisors, and handful of missiles, and wella !! another missile crises.

As someone posted earlier, $3 billion in arms will be used to control his own people.

Yup, President for Life, comrade Hugo Chavez.

"but while Putty, Chavez, and a number of other prominent criminals talk big, they come off as being not only scared but paranoid"

Exactly the qualities that endear them to the American left.

The American left is: in our midst, sociopathic, lethal and legal. By number and nation they have power and enable those such as you mentioned.

This mutual downward spiral shows itself, fractal-like in all examinations of life today; leaders, people on a bus, large and small groups, here and around the world, more and more businesses, real life/online/entertainment/advertising/news, slang, attitude, etc.

The Ponderosa map is engulfed
