At the risk of opening up the whole conscription debate, it certainly provided some assimilating to many of the young men from first generation immigrant families. That is not happening now.

Plus, Israel seems to be better off with universal military obligation. Think of it as patriot training and self=defense enabling.

That ended when Democrat Bill Clinton, who never served in the military was a draft dodger,

There, fixed it..........

"Volunteer Army = Better Military, less hassle"

Perhaps. Perhaps not. It certainly means lowered standards, reduced average physical ability, thousands of nondeployables and thousands more children to care for than the military had previously been responsible to care for.

"No mention of the fact that you can also volunteer to serve and not be forced into the service involuntarily."

Excellent point; apparently it didn't occur to Mitt, Rudy, Newt, Fred, etc. though.

Actually, if the primary were narrowed between Rudy and Duncan I think the better man would be evident.

“Democrats Bill Richardson, Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich failed their physical examinations..”

Mental deferments?

Why the heck do you get off being a LAW CLERK as a deferment? WERE LAWYERS deferred?

For the liberals, it is all about being forced to serve. Volunteering is an alien concept I doubt they can deal with.

Thank you!

And a THREE-TIME DRAFT DODGER at that!

After America elected & reelected Klinton, I pretty much lost all respect for the American electorate.

I guess I saw too many dead Marines to ever legitimize the election of that POS, Clinton.

Could be but that , as you well know, won’t happen. Either Rudy, Fred or Mitt wins this and that is that. I will support the winner. Still, when Bob Beckel today says the race altogether is still a toss up, I am not so sure the Dems think they have this in the bag. Today, also, they started attacking Fred T.

McCain served on the front lines?

Your military history must be impressive if you can make fun of a POW. Let's hear it.

I’d don’t put much stock in what Bob Beckel has to say. Go back to 1991 and see how he handicapped Bill Clinton. The republican nominee starts with 45% or so, unless he or she alienates great numbers within the party. Character issues will do that, among other things.
