Iranian forces crossed Iraqi border: report
AFP ^ | 06/25/07

Posted on 06/25/2007 4:59:23 PM PDT by Rutles4Ever

Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces have been spotted by British troops crossing the border into southern Iraq, The Sun tabloid reported on Tuesday.

Britain's defence ministry would not confirm or deny the report, with a spokesman declining to comment on "intelligence matters".

An unidentified intelligence source told the tabloid: "It is an extremely alarming development and raises the stakes considerably. In effect, it means we are in a full on war with Iran -- but nobody has officially declared it."

"We have hard proof that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have crossed the border to attack us. It is very hard for us to strike back. All we can do is try to defend ourselves. We are badly on the back foot."

The Sun said that radar sightings of Iranian helicopters crossing into the Iraqi desert were confirmed to it by very senior military sources.

In response to the report, a British defence ministry spokesman said: "There is evidence that explosive devices used against our troops in southern Iraq originated in Iran."

"Any Iranian link to armed militias in Iraq either through weapons supply, training or funding are unacceptable."

Britain has about 7,100 soldiers in Iraq, most of whom are based in the southern city of Basra and surrounding areas, though the government has pledged to reduce that to between 5,000 and 5,500 this year.

.....what holds us back....

Where is it reported that there are not special forces now in Iran?

We should not assume that just because there is no report there is no action.

Iran should be bombed back to the 7th century, putting all Iranians on foot and in the dark. And not just the Nuclear sites, we should destroy Iran’s entire Energy industry, a “true strategic bombing”. Every pipeline, tank farm, power plant, refinery, and tanker truck and rail car should be destroyed. With 30% unemployment, 30% of those with jobs working for the Government, terrible inflation, riots/demonstrations already common, and now with everyone including the Government on foot and in the dark, large sections of Iran would be in revolt in short order. Without communications and transportation, the Government would be helpless to prevent the spread of Revolution.

Where do we build the internment camps here in the US? Iranian Americans and sympathizers here would go postal on us here on our soil.

Rule of Engagement...

It’s like the British in the Revolutionary War...they get to hid behind rocks, trees, fences, etc. but we must march in a straight line...we can arrest, they can decapitate.

"Also an attack on Iraq would be a useful Iranian distraction to divert the West in the event Iran and Syria plan to sponsor another war against Israel"

Well....American forces can defend themselfve, British forces need a lawyer's permission, an invasion of Iranian NG is just the thing our joint ops with Iraqi army and police forces were for....

And if President Maliki asks for some help in stopping an Iranian invasion, those carriers won't just be sittin' offshore. The "Iranian navy" won't stand a chance of rescuing the mad mullahs.

But then again, they were not very much a problem to us in a straight up fight they got back in 1987...

I was there...They blowed up real good!!!

With what we have in the area right now, which was tons more than what we had back in the 80’s...

We’ll be tripping over assets to get a few token shots off on these goobers...

We’ll make very short work of them...And it will be so short a campaign it won’t be funny...

It seems the "Bush Doctrine" was nothing more than a bunch of talk. Increasingly, the nations that support and harbor terrorists are finding this out.

No - The reality is we will fight differing enemies at the times and places of our choosing....not theirs...

Even if this is BS, there has been lots of evidence of Iranian involvement against us in Iraq, and we have done nothing to directly hit back(correct me if I'm wrong). Right now it seems that we are just playing referee in an ethnic conflict that is being escalated by Iran and Syria, while trying to finish a nation building project. We are hoping, and doing what we can to make them stay quiet long enough so we can declare victory and get the hell out of there. Unfortunately, our enemies in Iran and Syria aren't playing along

Iran has provided weapons to our enemies (but so has the Russian, Chinese, French, to only name a few)...we can't simply go to war with everyone....

Preparing to hit back is a crucial phase....it does not happen in the open and great risks are taken. That the public isn't hearing about such Ops....doesn't mean they aren't happening..

We are not playing referee in an ethnic conflict. We are at war with an AQ element (and mimics) whom are doing all they can to cause chaos and a quasi civil war if possible. They have not achieved the latter....in fact more Sunni and Shia are on our side today then anytime in the past 3 years...

We are not going to "get the hell out of there". We will be there for a decade or more (just like Europe, Japan, SK) Iraq is the heart of the ME. It is essential to dragging the entire ME out of the dark ages. Doing such is an extremely difficult process but after 9-11 there was no other option. The ME must come out of the dark ages...the process for such had to begin. The world is simply too small and easily too dangerous to allow otherwise.

This process will be two steps forward, one step backward.

We are winning. There is no "playing" here. Reality is since Sept 11th, 2001 our enemies have suffered one strategic defeat after another....we have not suffered one. Hell, you would be hard pressed to find even a handful of tactical engagement our enemies could claim as successful.

The one aspect of this WOT we are losing...is the information battle. The PR side. Without question. Our MSM clearly has an agenda (along with our enemies) and the WH/RNC have not come up with a counter to such....(A WOT supporting 527 would be a great start...fully resourced)

I would imagine the US has burned some targets either from or in Iran as part of this silent war. We wouldn’t publicize it.

I don’t believe for a second the various provocations being attributed to Iran are not being responded to, at least some of the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if the US has taken out entire training camps near the border area inside Iran, among other things. This would be pretty normal for the US.
