Thursday rally for accused Marines [Camp Pendleton—June 28!]
North County Times ^ | June 25, 2007
NORTH COUNTY — The father of a key witness in an ongoing series of court hearings for Marines accused of wrongdoing in Haditha in 2005 is planning a rally at the Camp Pendleton gate in Oceanside on Thursday.
Don Dinsmore is riding his motorcycle from Seattle to Camp Pendleton. He expects to be joined by dozens of supporters of accused Marines at Thursday’s event.
Dinsmore’s son, Capt. Jeff Dinsmore, was the intelligence officer for the base’s 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment when 24 Iraqi civilians were killed on Nov. 19, 2005.
The killings resulted in four battalion officers being charged with dereliction of duty for failing to fully investigate the incident and four enlisted men being charged with murder. Charges have since been dropped for one of the enlisted men in exchange for his testimony.
Court hearings have taken place for three of the accused Marines with no decision yet on whether any will be ordered to face court martial.
“We’re riding for the Marines that did their job in Iraq and then came back and found themselves in trouble or charged with murdering Iraqis, which is absolutely absurd,” Don Dinsmore, who’s son has been called as a witness, said.
The rally is slated to start at about 1 p.m.

They rode to Stockton to visit a 3/1 Gold Star father, Mike Anderson, who lost his son in Fallujah in '04. Mike is on the far left in the photo below.
The Weasels contributed a big bundle of money to the Haditha Marines defense fund and presented it to Don at Mike's GMC dealership.
Today, Wednesday, Don is about 70 miles north of Bakersfield and looking forward to the big day tomorrow!
Wow!! Very cool! Thank you, Mr. Anderson, for everything you and your family have sacrificed for this country. We can never repay you.
Pinging a few friends — great pictures on this thread, and a great story too! Sometimes we can’t just sit still and hope things turn out ok — Mr. Dinsmore is DOING something. God go with him.
BTTT
I spoke with Don last night and just now this morning. He’s in Los Angeles and on a roll!
I had planned to join Don in LA but extenuating circumstances have prevented my doing so.
Those in the SoCal area who can join Don at Camp Pendleton, please rendezvous at the Rest Stop on the I-5 South freeway... the last rest stop just north of Oceanside area...at NOON today.
Rally is at 1pm outside the main gate. Bring flags and cameras!
If you can't be there, but want to show your support, please leave a post here...
Bump!
Bump!
Thank you - we’ll be at the gate...with flags, instead. Have to run an errand before being there.
Bump! If you were able to attend, please tell us how it went!
No, I wasn’t able to slip out of the office. :-]
