Another update: Ask for "Allie"! She's the Burr shill whose either so misinformed or mendacious as to be claiming to people that the cloture vote isn't "real." Only the vote on the bill itself -- virtually guaranteed passage! -- is the "real" vote, where Burr will probably cast a knowingly-meaningless symbolic vote against.

Douchebag-- we care not about symbolic votes. We care about the votes that matter. The cloture vote is the real vote.

The two different people who've answered the phone at Senator Burr's office couldn't tell me his stance on Comprehensive Piece of Crap. So I'm going to send an e-mail where I've changed my voter status from Republican to Democrat and explain that I'll be submitted if he votes yes.

I kind of felt sorry for the girl on the phone, she's obviously been abused today until she actually said "I don't understand why people are so upset about it. Its not even a "real vote" yet."

This is what we're fighting against -- their belief that we're f*cking retarded. People like Burr believe -- wrongly -- they can get away with defying their constituents and paying off their corporate lobbyist contributors through this Yes to Cloture No on the Bill split-vote. They really, really think we're so uninformed that this should "count" as real opposition to the bill.

They have to be told that it does not work anymore. This is not f*cking 1965, assholes.

Many offices are putting calls straight to voicemail and they can just trash faxes (and letters take weeks to get through due to security). Hit Hill staff where they are so codependent - their Blackberries! Send email directly to staff - not just the generic Senate office mailbox. Contact their Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Press Secretary. Make your voice heard!!

For the Democrats, I would strongly suggest taking a pro-union/anti-illegal alien stance (i.e. “they are taking our jobs”) rather than using the conservative national security angle.

I have the feeling here that Burr is the KEY vote. If Burr can be persuaded to announce that he will vote NO on Cloture, that would be enough to turn around a bunch of other Republican fence sitters (and even current cloture supporters) like Bond and Voinovich.

The maddening thing is that what you described is exactly what will go down this or next week, and Burr will be just one of many lying pols who will successfully pull off that same scam on dumbed down voters who don't bother to read below the headlines and spend their evenings watching junk TV. If I was a gambling man I would bet that not even one in ten NC voters will ever know or care how Burr votes on cloture or on the bill itself. And of the one in ten who does care, not one in ten of those will realize that Burr conned them into thinking he opposed amnesty by voting against the bill that his previous vote allowed to come to the floor. And Burr knows that as well as you and I do.

Most Americans deserve to get this kind of crappy, dishonest government and the snake oil peddlers who run it, but those of us who care and pay attention shouldn't have to put up with this crap. Voting is way too easy in the US, there should be some qualifications for voting other than just being a citizen with a pulse.

Well, I have to split out now. I will be following this Shamnesty Bill vote on the road via radio with PARTICULAR attention to Senator Burr.

I have the strong gut feeling that Burr is the ONE who can either defeat or pass this shameful Shamnesty Bill. I moved to NC from PA 2 years ago... I’m a registered Republican and I VOTE!!! I have not missed an election since I was 21 (those days the legal voting age).

I will remember Elizabeth Dole and her NO vote and also Burr and his vote... I already called his office several times and early on expected him to vote NO by what his office had said.

What a turncoat... he will not be forgotten by me for sure.
