We are on the verge of terrible times that could make the last few years seem like paradise. We have all the means to stop disaster, but a gun is only as a effective as the man at the trigger. And if his will has been weakened by the enemy’s propaganda, then we are in grave danger. Didn’t Bush read Churchill’s Gathering Storm? How he could put all his confidence in an overmatched C. Rice is beyond foolish, when a capable fellow like Bolton is available with sage advice. I just pray when the blow falls that the American people will be able to shake off this evil spell and remember right from wrong, courage from cowardice, unlike our State Department.

“but should probably be out of most of Iran in a month or so.”

The best plans don’t survive the first contact in battle. Multiply that estimate by a factor of 12 to 15 would be more accurate under the best circumstances. Name on “police action” that has lasted less than 2 years.

“Partition? Maybe so. But it could be dangerous, because that would mean that the Sunni Arabs controlled even more oil than they already do. “

Would that be so bad? Looking at it in terms of stability. The Sunni’s have shown they value the money. The Shiia don’t even value human life and are committed more to flawed ideals than making money.

“SOmetimes I think nukular weapons themselves and the megacide to come are just the planet’s way of protecting itself from us.”

Think about what you wrote. Al Gore couldn't have said it any better.

He did. But let us be carefull as to how important Iraq was, verse Iran in the actual sales of oil. To different animals, different game plans. I do hope the Saudis and their neighboring states, Canada, Mexico, Indonesia, and Malasia are planning to boost their oil exports, should we have to take out Iran.
Then again, perhaps the new generation very deep penetrators are really to go. Supposed we virtually destroyed everything related to their military/communications networks, their airforce and navy, and all the nuclear and suspect nuclear facility sites and all related industries that contribute to their nuclear program, both above and below ground level.
Would they continue to sell oil/gas to the world?

I don’t think Iran is a similar case to Iraq. A lot of people think the best bet is to get the Revolutionary Guard off their backs and let the Iranians work it out. As long as we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan, the country is fairly well contained. A lot of Iranians, especially the students, would love to stage a revolution, but they can’t do it while the guard has overwhelming power.

It would have been even better if we had dealt with Syria several years ago, but that still seems the best route. We could stay there forever if we tried to set up our own regime.

Bud - I don't care how long you say you've voted GOP or if you voted for GWB or not - That is immaterial to the fact that you most certainly were using DEM/DU talking points / attacks when trying to suggest GWB lives in a insular world where his "advisers" keep him sheltered from reality (because we all know he is too dumb to think or see things on his own).

That is garbage. I would bet dollars to doughnuts the man has an intellect and IQ that would put most to shame (likely including you).

You can take your "steer clear of me" keyboard macho BS and stick it bud, if you don't like that you used such intellectually dishonest attacks and were called on them.

I certainly hope if we do get a Republican in the WH in 2008, they will see fit to appoint Bolton to a very high position in the cabinet.

"Lately, so much of what he says and does (not just immigration) makes me wonder just who the heck we elected. I don’t think this was what I signed on for when I voted last time."

I voted for him twice and I'm feeling the same way. What the hell happened to him?

John Bolton is a very smart and respectable man. He is somebody people should respectfully listen too, even if they dont like what he has to say.”

So George W. Bush is an incompetent fool. What else is new? The “Bush Doctrine” lies in ruins over Iran (and Pakistan for that matter). What a disaster of a Presidency.

Bush has other priorities right now, specifically, taking care of the cheap labor needs of his corporate buddies. A nuclear Iran sworn to kill Americans around the world is trivial compared to our need at home to have clean toilets and well-manicured lawns.
***Good enough place to bump this thread.

Fred Thompson/John Bolton 2008

I think that putting Bolton inside the White House broom closet would be a tremendous waste of his talent. Make him Secretary of State. We are about 50 years overdue for a Sec/State that will work to advance this country's interests, speak plainly in doing so (no matter who it offends - or perhaps because it will offend the tyrants and nuts that oppose us), and ignore the moronic, myopic bureaucraps in the DoS who think that the height of success is getting heads of state to sign agreements.

On the topic of Fred's administration, I would like to see Duncan Hunter as Secretary of Defense and Tancredo in charge of INS. He should also put someone in charge of the BATFE who is a Class 3 dealer who's had to deal with the crap which that out-of-control agency has spewed out since 1968. Just a few thoughts.

“Just to remind you: consider President Kerry.”

Yeah - if he were president we would be negotiating with Iran and North Korea and giving amnesty to illegals and spending us into the poorhouse.

Oh, wait! Nevermind!
