Fascinating reconstruction of recent history.

Bush never cracked down on the border and it was never a major campaign argument for him.

It was not part of his agenda.

It is the border bots who are being disingenous. Why did you not kick him oout in 2004? It would have been easy to do. he traitorously refused to enforce our nations border for four years? Millions of illegals poured into the country from 2001 - 2004. Why did not the border bots go ballistic in 2004?

Did Bush really change his stripes in 2004 or did border bots just decide to fly into the convenient rage of the time?

Conservatism is on the rise so Buchannanites after 2004 decided it was time to return to their failed policies of the 1990s. The reactionary nativists of the 1990s fought NAFTA tooth and nail and lost. Now they want their payback.

Now we have to read extended reasons why Ron Paul is a good candidate when he is in fact an idiot.

This is going too far.

Employers who hire illegals with phony SS#s and don't know exactly what they're doing? I've never ran across one of those!

Anchor babies old enough to enlist? Must be countless thousands of those also!

punish law enforcement people who do their jobs

To whom are you referring? Ramos and Compean - criminals who were caught red-handed?

Breaking the law is how law enforcement people do their jobs?

I almost don’t know how to respond to that. Are you saying taxpayers should be subsidizing employers who cheat the system by importing illegal labor?

Well of course you do not know how to respond. You are a control freak who wants to throw people who build shelter and grow food into jail, all because you do not like the people they hire to get the job done.

Like Marie Antoinette he is saying of the populace “let them eat cake”

That’s true for this amnesty thing. Bush and his elitist buddies can afford to send their kids to the best private schools, get the best private healthcare with doctors standing by to tend to them, etc. They don’t have to worry about the negative impact that the imported slave class will have on middle-American kids’ education, emergency room care, etc. They’re on their pedestals telling us to “eat cake”. It won’t affect them negatively, and they don’t understand the true consequences, so it’s a non-issue as far as they’re concerned.

There could be no residency papers to fast track if they were merely illegals. Enlisting is not a basis for residency. If papers were there to fast track they already had a basis for and a pending application for residency BEFORE they went to sign up.

“Ah yes the crime of taking a job to clean a toilet, a regular charlie manson that person is.”

If your toilet cleaning guy is an illegal alien, he is a criminal BY DEFINITION.

And it seems to you more evil than charlie manson.

You're right - he should have put that whole al-Qaeda issue on the backburner and focused on dishwashers and landscapers instead.

OK, now I know you are on crack. Each and every single week thousands of foreign nationals from all over the world manage to illegally smuggle themselves across our borders. If millions of destitute Mexicans and Central Americans were able to do it how hard do you think it would be for islamic terrorists? How many sleeper cells do you think are inside our country...?

Those Albanians near Fort Dix were simply the tip of the iceberg. After 70 plus run ins with the law over all sorts of traffic violations and several drug busts our DHS claims that they didn't know about their actual plans to wreak havoc at that military base. Man, I feel a whole lot safer now.

>>Internal enforcement has been worse than it was under Clinton.

Says who? Bill Clinton?

No, a lot of people have been saying that. Including Michelle Malkin.

Notices of intent to fine employers:

1997: 865

1999: 417

2000: 178

2001: 100

2003: 162

2004: 3

"As for getting tough on employers, Rubenstein also notes these stunning statistics: “[O]f the 3,064 workforce investigations closed [in 2004], fines were imposed in just 3 (three!) of them – one out of one thousand. By contrast, fines were imposed in about 11 percent of closed investigations in 1997.

Based on my reporting and interviews with ICE agents, I can also tell you that this week’s dog-and-pony show will result in very few of the arrested illegal aliens actually being deported. Despite what the administration claims, “catch and release” is still the order of the day.

Just ask local and federal law enforcement officers in the Galveston, Texas, area, where in January of this year, following a collaborative effort between local police and area ICE agents, some 62 illegal aliens were caught at a day labor site…and released after local open-borders activists from LULAC kicked up a fuss and Washington ordered its local ICE agents to cave in. It happens every day.

More Bush-era catch-and-release background:here and here and here. and here. Must-read from indefatigable deportation analyst Juan Mann here. You want “comprehensive immigration reform?” Then stop talking about making existing problems worse by piling on a new guest worker/amnesty program.

Clean our own house first."

Here's what we've learned: in 2007, we need better post-normalization attention to border security.

With a 24 hour background check for illegals...? Right...

Oh? What happened to the sweeping tax reform (including getting rid of the IRS) he spoke about during the last election? He won, that’s what happened - and we haven’t heard a peep about it since.

First, President Bush never promised to get rid of the IRS. Second, what happened is, the Democrats won.

Thirdly, the essence of conservatism is to do what President Bush has done on taxes--- to do nothing when one can do nothing to improve the situation: as Milton said, "They also serve who only stand and wait." The attitude Milton speaks of, translated to politics, was why Ronald Reagan so admired Calvin Coolidge.

The opposite of such thinking is revealed in Senators Graham and Lott on immigration-- that one must get a bill through no matter what, regardless of whether it is an improvement on the status quo or not, because the status quo is somehow, supposedly, by definition intolerable. President Bush's tax cuts have carried the economy into prosperity with high growth and low unemployment, and continue to do so.

Impaechment is the only solution. The president’s oath of office includes foreign invasion and that’s just what we have here. Allow these 12M to 20M illegals to just waltz right in and steal our country, and the entire third world will be coming in right after them. Remember the muriel boat lift? Castro dumped all his unwanted human trash on us, including emptying his prisons. Mexico is doing exactly the same thing, we’ve become their toxic waste dump, and losing our hospitals, schools, welfare, SSI in the process.

No, impeachment is the only solution. Either GWB goes or all the illegals go, which will it be?

I don’t think anyone wants to throw anyone in jail. It’s not hard.

The people who are supposed to be here stay, the people who aren’t supposed to be here, go and stay gone until they do what it takes to come back legally.

Who cares if the middle class takes it in the shorts? The elite get their imported “slave class”, and isn’t that all that matters?

Yes, I’m afraid you’re right. A lot of old families I’ve known for a long time used to be conservative, but now they’re almost all liberal. The same with my old prep school. Noblesse oblige may be an annoying sort of attitude, but it’s better than what you get these days.

Can anyone explain Bush’s actions? Why he would imply his conservative base are bigots and racists?

That's an easy one.

This is all about the North American Union. The NAU is being done in steps and slow stages so that we're like lobsters as the temperature is raised.

First came NAFTA.

Then we were going to allow their trucks free access to all American roads.

Then there was a blurb the other night that we're going to provide medical services to those hurt on the border or some such.

Then now we're going to provide their planes free access to American air space.

There's also a little blurb in the current "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill" that FAST-TRACKS the NAU.

Then there's this border bill.

It's all about erasing any national borders on the North American continent without us pesky voters getting in the way.

That's the reason. Bet on it.

There could be no residency papers to fast track if they were merely illegals. Enlisting is not a basis for residency. If papers were there to fast track they already had a basis for and a pending application for residency BEFORE they went to sign up.

Here's how it works:

ILLEGAL: I want to sign up, ese.
RECRUITER: Great! Are you a US citizen or legal resident?
I: Um, no.
R: Well, you can't fill out an enlistment request unless you are a citizen, a legal resident or a current petitioner for legal status.
I: Oh? What can I do?
R: I would advise you to find an immigration lawyer and have him file a residency petition on your behalf. If you have such a petition pending, you can fill out an enlistment form and we can get started.

A few hours later:

I: OK, ese, I paid the immigration lawyer around the corner $150 bucks and his runner filed the paperwork at the courthouse and I brought you back a notarized copy.
R: Great! Let's get started!

Is this one of those "false dichotomies" you mentioned?

On what basis would the lawyer file a residency petition? Illegals are illegals because they have no basis to file for residency. (Not because they didn't think to see a lawyer.)
