Today President Bush spoke at the rededication of the Islamic Center of Washington. (Transcript)
Returning to the White House, the president met with experts to discuss how individual citizens can (and should) have the power to make their own health care decisions, not the government. He spoke about this later in the Roosevelt Room. (Transcript)
First Lady Laura Bush continued her tour of Africa, arriving in Maputo, Mozambique. There, Mrs. Bush met with President Armando Guebuza and toured US funded facilities that are fighting malaria and AIDS while helping the victims of those diseases.
Back home, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke at the US-India Business Council in Washington.
And on a much lighter (and happier) note, President Bush attended the Seventh-Annual Tee Ball Game this afternoon on the South Lawn of the White House. (Transcript)
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
Quote of the Day:
President Bush: This is what freedom offers: societies where people can live and worship as they choose without intimidation, without suspicion, without a knock on the door from the secret police.
The freedom of religion is the very first protection offered in America's Bill of Rights. It is a precious freedom. It is a basic compact under which people of faith agree not to impose their spiritual vision on others, and in return to practice their own beliefs as they see fit. This is the promise of our Constitution, and the calling of our conscience, and a source of our strength.

Bush is joined for the singing of the national anthem by Meredith Cripe, a member of the Chantilly, Virginia Little League Challenger League, at the top of the first White House Tee Ball Game of the 2007 season. The game pitted the Bobcats from Cumberland, Maryland, against the Red Wings of Luray, Virginia.

President Bush is seen through the viewfinder of a camera in the audience as he makes remarks during the re-dedication ceremony of the Islamic Center of Washington in Washington, Wednesday, June 27, 2007.
President Bush: We've seen the expansion of the concept of religious freedom and individual rights in every region of the world -- except one. In the Middle East, we have seen instead the rise of a group of extremists who seek to use religion as a path to power and a means of domination.
This self-appointed vanguard presumes to speak for Muslims. They do not. They call all Muslims who do not believe in their harsh and hateful ideology "infidels" and "betrayers" of the true Muslim faith. This enemy falsely claims that America is at war with Muslims and the Muslim faith, when in fact it is these radicals who are Islam's true enemy. (Applause.)
YAY! Dude, I was holding my breath waiting for the darned ‘preview’ thing to hurry up. It seemed like it was taking forever. I can’t believe I get this excited over an imaginary toaster!
When snugs or whoever is doing toasters comes on, I’d like a purple one with a nice picture of Laura Bush.
Whoa - toaster for YOU! I was thinking about you today, wondering how you’re coping with an automobile. Don’t ask me why.....my mind works in mysterious ways.
President Bush arrives to make remarks on health care, Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington.
Thanks for posting the information about the “Dose” Someone was asking me yesterday, but I couldn’t explain it
Imaginary???? OH NO! I keep waiting for mine to arrive from the UK - LOL
President Bush: I hear the same concerns: America's health care is too costly, it's too confusing; it leaves too many people uninsured.
The fundamental question is, what should we do about it? On that question, our nation has a clear choice.
One option is to put more power in the hands of government by expanding federal health care programs and empowering bureaucrats to make medical decisions.
The other option is to put more power in the hands of individuals, by making private health insurance more affordable and accessible and empowering people and their doctors to make the decisions that are right for them. That's the divide.

I am coping ok. I am driving more and practicing my night driving. I don’t know why driving at night freaks me out a little, but I’ve just decided I need to slap myself and get in the damn car (even tho I don’t have anywhere to go. I just drive around.)
I hate to say this, since I know gas prices are a sore point w/folks, but I bought this car the last week of December. Since then, I’ve only put in 30$ worth of gas, in 10$ increments. I’ve still got half a tank.
It’s not that I don’t drive, but I don’t have far to go and I don’t drive everyday. I’m still a big believer in public transportation, which we are blessed to have a wonderful service here in Iowa City.
Hi Kas! Nice to see you.
Thanks. I asked this last night and was ignored.

U.S. First Lady Laura Bush arrived in Mozambique Wednesday on the second leg of a four-nation Africa tour that focuses on how the United States is helping to fight AIDS and malaria, two of the deadliest diseases on the poverty-stricken continent.
Understandable about night driving. It’s not that safe.
Public transportation scares me. I suppose it’s just what one is accustomed to.
You asked me, but I could not explain it to you. I apologize
Thank you, jonny ! How are you and how’s your summer going? It was 94 today in Chicago, then a vicious storm came through for about 30 minutes, and the temp dropped 20 degrees. Summer is here!
All .. there’s a video of the ever graceful, classy and lovely Laura from Africa .. it’s after the one on the death of Liz Claibourne.
Go to “Related Video” and click on “Liz Claibourne Has Died”
She’s such a tremendous blessing to US. (PS .. you’ll see Jenna, too ;)
Nice to see you too Bear :-)
***I cant believe I get this excited over an imaginary toaster!***
***Thanks for posting the information about the Dose Someone was asking me yesterday, but I couldnt explain it***
Don’t worry about it. I think there’s a bunch of gradeschool kids goofing around when they ask that question. Can’t you just hear them? “Hey, I got on the Dose to annoy them, and I didn’t get banned.” Probably like one of those clubs where they have to steal something to join.
And, by the way, you did beautifully yesterday. AGAIN.
Thanks, I knew they would come out of the woodworks, so I was prepared
Hi, kas .. ;) How are you?
LOL! HI, Kas
I’m good. How about you?
What a great photo of the Day...love it!!!
