Yup...but it won’t wash.
Rhetoric,shmetoric.
The FREDeration is here...deal with it. We’ll be here for a LONG time.
I apologize — he voted for 527 campaign finance reform, but not specifically McCain-Feingold.
Even Fred’s earlier statements on abortion (before getting elected) were libertarian and within the mainstream of the pro-life movement. So to me, Fred has always been solidly pro-life. This horse has been beaten so hard though, that whoever’s saying it is doing so out of anger and fear.
However, someone whose main claim to fame is so-called campaign finance reform isn't as strong on fiscal issues and freedom as I think is needed for the Presidency.
Backing McCain for Pres? Hmmmm....that is fairly weird.
I believe strongly that the 2008 election will be about the economy, especially if we are in recession. Mitt will be a strong advocate for holding down taxes, cutting spending, and creating jobs. I'm not sure how much Fred can offer on those points. Maybe others can enlighten me.
Libertarian??? I do know what Libertarians stand for. Just as I also know what RINO's stand for.
It does not help Fred to associate him in any way with libertarianins.
While Ron Paul may be a Libertarian and may be one of the best candidates on the pro-life issue, we normally do not see libertarians as solid right wing candidates.
JMHO
Fred opposed tax-payer funding of abortions (before being elected) and having it returned to the states, which would also make women more responsible for their actions. That’s the Libertarian position on abortion.
Essentially, the party is officially pro-choice, with the caveat that government funds not be used to perform abortions.
