Barbra Streisand receives French medal ("You are the America that we love")

PARIS - Barbra Streisand performed her first-ever concert in France this week — and was rewarded with a medal of the Legion of Honor.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy awarded the medal to Streisand in a ceremony Thursday, the first time he has bestowed the honor since taking over from Jacques Chirac last month.

"You are the America that we love," said Sarkozy, who is seen as more U.S.-friendly than Chirac. "Women like you ... do a lot to bring our two peoples together."

Onlookers included French crooner Charles Aznavour and actor Alain Delon.

Sarkozy's wife, Cecilia, went to Streisand's sole concert in France, at Paris' Bercy stadium Tuesday.

Streisand told Sarkozy, a conservative, that he reminded her of former U.S. Presidents Kennedy and Clinton, "who appreciated art and recognized the importance of the arts in the world."

"I am deeply honored to be joining the playwrights, heads of state, artists and leaders who have accepted this honor before me," Streisand, 65, said in a statement. "I leave with a sense of inspiration and responsibility as an artist to always reflect the truth and as a citizen to try and create a world of justice, compassion, equality and peace - one with a little more music and a little more joy."

Created by Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 19th century, the Legion of Honor is France's elite national merit society. Although foreigners cannot be officially inducted into the Legion, they are routinely made honorary recipients.

Recent honorees include Jerry Lewis, Valentino and Norman Mailer.

What else can be said?
Cozy with Sarkozy; annoying Americans are feted in (choke)France. I would rather Tiera del Fuego. The French enjoy wine tainted with blood, cheese that smells like unwashed feet, and Jerry Lewis.
They happily share their land with Islamic “Youts” who riot and torture ,torch automobiles that will not run, and have a military that will run.
Vive la France! May you always have Paris Hilton as your hallmark, and the din of La Streisand to firmly fix your GPS coordinates in the political firmament.

And Sarkozy claims to be conservative...

"Conservative" is a relative term...

"I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that."

"If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine."

"The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home." - French Presidential Candidate Nicolas Sarkozy

Maybe she’ll move there.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>P> I hope so, but that would be a big mistake on her part. The French Vichy liberals who welcomed the Nazis into France, and were supportive of anti semitism ( Dreyfus Affair) prior to WWII, are still very much alive and kicking. Many of them are the very French liberals who now applaud her.

Streisand would be loved by France only if she stays away. She is a Jew, and it would be a big mistake for her to move to France and wake up one morning to have swastikas spray painted on her mansion, no matter where it would be located. That's what's happening now in France and in Quebec ( Montreal).

As a liberal she is blind to that , of course.

Conservative by French standards means his politics are about comparable to Bill Clinton.

In other words, less liberal than the unabashed French Socialists than Mitterand (who would be left of Kucinich by our standards) but nothing like Reagan, let alone even a Rockefeller Republican.

Sarky...you broke my heart! You’re nothing to me now. You’re not a conservative brother...you’re nothing. If you want to come to America for a visit, let me know a few days before so that I can leave. (Al can show you around.)

Babs—don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Please move to France, where you are much more appreciated. Won’t hurt my feelings.
