New London terror alert as second 'bomb' vehicle is found
this is London ^ | 29.06.07 | staff;

London faced a fresh terror alert tonight as police hunting the gang behind the nightclub bomb plot evacuated Hyde Park.

Fresh details emerged of how the gang - believed to be linked to al Qaeda - came within moments of causing carnage with a 'massive bomb' attack on a West End club.

Park Lane, on Hyde Park's eastern edge, is closed from Marble Arch to Hyde Park corner, with a 200-metre cordon around a suspicious vehicle in an underground car park. It is not known however if this vehicle also contains a bomb.

*********************EXCERPT**************************

The head of the Met's Anti-Terrorist Branch, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, said the technology used in the Mercedes bomb was the same as that used by insurgents in Iraq.

He said: "The police were called and Metropolitan Police explosives officers went to the scene and examined the car. In the car they found significant quantities of petrol together with a number of gas cylinders.

"It is appropriate for me to pay tribute to the courage and skill of the explosives officers who manually disabled the device."

Scotland Yard said extra police patrols were taking place across London as a result.

A spokesman said: "This is to provide a visible reassurance and is not in response to any specific threat."

Apparently, there is a second incident, but too early to have much info.

While we in this country are arguing about immigration and our Government is doing nothing to secure our border, London is busy defusing terrorist bombs allover the city.

HS could be defusing 50 bombs a day and we would never hear about it because it would affect traffic at the mall.

Except for the commonly-used "tech" of a cell phone as a remote detonator, I think this is just flat out untrue. IED's in Iraq are ~not~ bottles of gasoline, they're mostly leftover artillery shells and mines. There's just very little in common at all.

Sure. Al Qaeda always goes after what they perceive to be the weak points. No need to take the high risk of a direct attack on the US (especially since the repercussions of the last one were so severe for them) when they can more easily peel away "weak sisters" like Spain and now Britain.

We may not be being invaded as strongly as the Brits, but rest assured there are Muslims in this country capable of carrying out these bombings.

Perhaps even mnore of them in Canada.

We bring in 10,000 Muslims students each year to attend our colleges. How many are studying chemistry and bomb making 101.?

From link at Drudge:

Was London Bomb Plot Heralded On Web?
Internet Forum Comment From Night Before: "London Shall Be Bombed"

**********************EXCERPT************************

Hours before London explosives technicians dismantled a large car bomb in the heart of the British capital's tourist-rich theater district, a message appeared on one of the most widely used jihadist Internet forums, saying: "Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed."

CBS News found the posting, which went on for nearly 300 words, on the "al Hesbah" chat room. It was left by a person who goes by the name abu Osama al-Hazeen, who appears regularly on the forum.

Al Hesbah is frequently used by international Sunni militant groups, including al Qaeda and the Taliban, to post propaganda videos and messages in their fight against the West.

There was no way for CBS News to independently confirm any connection between the posting made Thursday night and the car bomb found Friday.

Al-Hazeen's message begins: "In the name of God, the most compassionate, the most merciful. Is Britain Longing for al Qaeda's bombings?"

Al-Hazeen decries the recent knighthood of controversial author Salman Rushdie as a blow felt by all British Muslims. "This 'honoring' came at a crucial time, a time when the whole nation is reeling from the crusaders attacks on all Muslim lands," he said, in an apparent reference to the British role in Iraq.

"We say to Britain: The Emir of al Qaeda, Sheikh Osama, has once threatened you, and he carried out his threats. Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed," the message reads.

Now they are admitting that the so called gang might be connected to al Qaeda.

The first politically correct bs article would lead one to believe that it might have been a gang of Amish missionaries or anyother group besides Islamofascist Wannabe Serial Killers.

One way for the UN to be of any use to civilization would be passage of a GA resolution condemning all fatwas against Salman Rushdie, followed by the expulsion of any member the gov't of which doesn't repudiate the fatwas. I can dream, can't I? Thanks E.

It would have been an absolute disaster.

Baghdad would have come to London.

You remember the threats last year where an al qaeda affiliated group planned to blow up the ministry of sound night club in London.

They argued that it was a particularly good target as no one could claim that those dancing, drinking sinners were innocents...

The terrorists never make just a single bang. They like multiple events at the same time. No surprise, therefore, that multiple vehicles are involved. There could well be a fourth or fifth, also.

Agree with you: I did note that there was no mention of a high order explosive being involved. A vapor bomb is definately dangerous, but generally less so than an IED composed of artillary shells or other High explosives. I wonder what they’re not telling us in the news reports.

From the Blogosphere(Strata-Sphere):

I Would Check For Nuclear, Chemical, Biological Material In Car Bomb

******************************EXCERPT****************************

The streets surrounding the car bomb incident are eerily familiar to those who followed the Litvinenko saga last fall and this spring. But there are also parallels to the terrorist ring the UK recently rounded up as well:

The potentially devastating attempted car bomb attack today is a disturbing echo of the plans of master al Qaeda terrorist Dhiren Barot.

The diminutive fanatic from Kingsbury assembled a gang who plotted to kill thousands of people both in Britain and the United States.

One plan was to pack three cars with gas cylinders and explosives and detonate them in car parks beneath targets in London and New York.

By the Grace of God have we not had multiple terror attacks by fifth-columnists that came across that wide-open border - yet — some are more than likely already here.

Somebody asked how sleeper cells could possibly be alerted? Gee a keyword phrase on a website, email, etc. Simple.
