The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials invited all Republican presidential hopefuls to its annual convention at Disney World in Buena Vista, Fla.
Only one showed up Rep. Duncan Hunter, of California.
A grateful audience gave Hunter a standing ovation Friday and some convention goers posed for snapshots with the congressman after his question and answer session.
Standing at the lone candidate podium which was decorated in red, white and blue, Hunter was asked about his plan to fix the nations immigration system.
We need to build the fence and build it quickly, he said.
An 854-foot fence would help national security, stop crime along the border, and protect the United States from terrorists, he said.
After the forum, he told reporters the fence would also keep people from dying in the desert of heat exhaustion.
If 200 kids a year were dying in a canal the first thing you would do is fence it, he said.
On Saturday, seven Democratic presidential candidates were slated to attend a forum at the NALEO conference, including Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Barack Obama of Illinois, Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, Joseph Biden of Delaware, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, and Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio.
It pays to capitalize on other candidates' lack of presence.
Well, first round of reports about NALEO and Duncan's trip there as the "Lone Hunter". ;)
Hope there'll be pictures/audio/video up within the next few days!
How do you say GOP in Spanish?
It would be interesting to hear the contrast between Hunter’s speech as opposed to the democrats speeches.
Que?
This is America. We speak English. What is this Spanish you speak of?
;P
Yo Soy El GOP!

Yeah.
It doesn’t hurt that Hunter had the whole stage to himself. The Dems will have to share.
Immigration ping.
GOP in Spanish is puta.
I don’t think so, but I can say that “tu eres un hijo de puta por decirlo”===
Beat me to it.
Thanks for the ping. It would be interesting if Hunter picks up some endorsement from some latino organizations.
Y tu tambien. Hay que separar el partido, que consiste de los miembros Y los que mandan que son otra cosa.
Will Hunter get a shot at debating the dims this weekend as well? He could take all of them on at once.
Do you realize how hectic campaigns are and they can't meet with every Tom, Dick and Harry outfit.
In Ingles, por favor. I only know a few words of Spanish.
He’s attending the same Iowa event tomorrow. The same event many of the contenders cited as the reason they couldn’t come.
No, he’s heading to Iowa tomorrow for the event in Des Moine.
Only if it could be erected around something like, say, the US branch of an international terrorist organization, if it could be identified as such.
Or did the author mean an 854-foot high fence?
Iowa will love him. There are a lot of blue collar typically Dem voters that Hunter could really connect with. That’s why I think he’s the strongest GOP candidate because he connects most with the average person.
The author typoed.
It should read 854-mile fence.
You could call it “el partido estupido”. However, to answer the question, the GOP in spanish would be “heh oh peh”, or, if you substitute the meaning of GOP, which is Partido Grande y Viejo” then it would be the Peh Heh Veh. Easier to say would be “los que no tienen huevos”.
I think he needs to spend lots of time here in the rust belt as well.
Not only has Duncan Hunter been at the fore front of fighting illegal immigration; but he has fought it with compassion. He use to offer free legal services to illegal immigrants who tried to ‘knock on the front door’. And water to those who didn’t.

Excerpt:
“John Hunter of San Diego organized the initial waster-supply efforts, WITH HELP FROM HIS CONSERVATIVE CONGRESSMAN BROTHER, Rep. DUNCAN HUNTER (emphasis by Sun) from the Imperial Valley, because he “had to do something” about people dying virtually in his own back yard.
Congressman Hunter has opposed illegal immigration for his entire 18 year tenure, and believes that great border patrol is the way to go. Nevertheless, he supports his brothers efforts to save lives.”
Duncan Hunter is a class act...
He was on Rusty Humphries show last night...
sorry Im not a member so I cant get the recording..
Republicans are better off to present their positions forthrightly, respectfully of course but forthrightly, they shouldn’t assume that hispanics are automatically against them. While most are Dems by default, if you listen you’ll find that more of them are more in agreement with you on more subjects than you would think. Or even than they themselves would think.
Only Hunter had the nerve to present a plainly anti-illegal-immigration message to a hispanic audience, and he’ll probably walk away with far more respect than a dozen mealy-mouthed candidates who only say what they think people want to hear.
Sure, there are plenty of people who want to be pandered to, but they have to split that vote with all the other panderers. For the ones who respect plain-spoken honesty, who are more than you might think, Hunter will be the one they’ll remember.
I think all Americans will find strong resonance with Representative Hunter's positions --- and not the least of these I think will be people who have gone to the trouble to legally immigrate here.
Bien dicho.
Ann Coulter says he seems to be the candidate she will support for POTUS.
>>>los que no tienen huevos
Eggs?
Yes, eggs. The GOP has huevos on their face, but otherwise, lacks them.
PING
Hunter attends a Latino event and openly advocates to them we build the fence, and then gets a standing ovation?
Tells me that Hunter deserves a lot more attention than he is getting and that Latino’s aren’t as opposed to the idea of a fence as some claim.
Personally, instead of pandering to people, I think honestly letting them know where you stand and what you will do as POTUS goes further than anything.
GO HUNTER!!!
I am ready for the next debate, DH knows how to take care of business in those debates
test ping

I’d say the author of this article didn’t do enough research! How could this be missed, or was it intentional?
Correction to my post #41; I thought I was responding to THIS thread:

I’m under the weather this evening, and it shows. :)
I thought the Sun was the weather???
::smiles::
Hope you feel better.
lol, and after a bit of tea, I THINK I’m more alert.
“Hunter’s the only Republican who went, and he gets a standing ovation.”
WOW!
GOP
Grande Oportunidad Partido ???
Great line! Hunter bump!
“Only Rep. Duncan Hunter of California agreed to show. The other candidates cited scheduling conflicts, including a Saturday debate in Iowa, which Hunter also planned to attend.”

From the above link “WHICH HUNTER ALSO PLANNED TO ATTEND.” So if he could make it, why couldn’t the rest of them? The answer is obvious.
“I am ready for the next debate, DH knows how to take care of business in those debates”
Mark Levin said that of all the people who were in these debates, Duncan Hunter outperformed the media’s expectations - is charismatic and solid as a rock on the issues.
btw, when is the next debate?
Demand a border fence! Build it NOW!! Beef up the border patrol and close our borders!
