A federal judge has ruled that a majority black county in eastern Mississippi violated whites' voting rights in what prosecutors said was the first lawsuit to use the Voting Rights Act on behalf of whites.
U.S. District Judge Tom S. Lee ruled late Friday that Noxubee County Democratic Party leader Ike Brown and the county Democratic Executive Committee "manipulated the political process in ways specifically intended and designed to impair and impede participation of white voters and to dilute their votes."
...
The judge said there was a pattern to Brown's efforts to keep all whites out of the county's Democratic Party, including holding party caucuses in private homes rather than public voting precincts and inviting only blacks to the meetings.
Lee said he could not find that the defendants had a specific animosity against white people.
"Brown, in fact, claims a number of whites as friends," Lee wrote. "However, there is no doubt from the evidence presented at trial that Brown, in particular, is firmly of the view that blacks, being the majority race in Noxubee County, should hold all elected offices, to the exclusion of whites; and this view is apparently shared by his allies and associates on the NDEC, who, along with Brown, effectively control the election process in Noxubee County."

No 'specific' animosity. Just a general view that whites are incapable of proper governance.
small smile
He screwed over White Democrats... This is a bad thing?
This is impossible. Everyone knows that blacks (excuse me, “African hyphen Americans”) can’t possibly be “racists”.
I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn for sale if you’re interested.
This is the inevitable result of racial politics. African Americans will of course be as racist as anyone else, whites will become more defensive as their percentage declines, and the African Americans already have been eclipsed by Hispanics.
...but the Reverend Sharpton says that blacks can’t be racist or discriminatory...
What goes around comes around homie. Now it’s the bruthas keeping whitey down.
Jesse Jackson is boarding a plane as I am writing this.
but he said the whites talk so god
U.S. District Judge Tom S. Lee is wrong. Blacks are never prejudiced towards whites. There has to be another reason why they held the meetings in private homes.
Apparently, blacks cannot be racist because they are not part of the majority ethnic group in the US. Ok. I asked what the word for a person that isn’t part of the majority ethnic group in the US. The answer was COLORIST.
Reading some of the comments (I liked my corrected typo vomments) and I see in the article and in various references - hyphenated Americans, Black and Hispanic. Reminds me of the comments of Teddy Roosevelt in the early part of the last century. Don’t have the exact quote but it has to do with ALL becoming Americans and speaking one language, the English language. If not, he foresaw the Balkanization of America. Modern politicians vomments pander to the hyphens, as in divide and conquer, hence the present war between the populace and their “Representatives”
Have no fear Freepers, the Justice Bros, Jesse and Rev. Al will ride in on white horses and put a great smack down on these wraskally racists.
: )
When the writers of the Declaration of Independence wrote that all men are created equal, they were likely doing more than voicing an ideal. I suspect they were sounding a warning that all men are equal in their capacity to do evil as well as good. Mississippi provides evidence yet again of the prescience of the founders.
Racist, sexist homophobe, environment-destroying BUMP!
“He screwed over White Democrats... “
Both of them. ;) This investigation was instigated by Republicans as a result of problems getting to vote or getting their votes counted since 2000. When it became clear he was doing the same to white Dems, it then went national.
He and his people did a lot more than that. Dead people voting, fake absentee ballots, harassing white voters, intimidation, etc.
Democrats living up to their history in Mississippi. Nothing’s changed except the color.
This isn’t unknown in Miss. Wilkinson County in the corner of the boot of La. has a lot of problems. In one county election more people voted than the population. It’s a problem that the justice dept has just ignored.
Also, look at Sheriff Jackson.... all the Feds need to do is scratch the surface and they’d find a lot. Even the locals that once supported him are fearful. He may get caught due to a lawsuit by a Baton Rouge lawyer about police brutality.
“”Brown, in fact, claims a number of whites as friends,” Lee wrote...”
Remember when one would be drawn and quartered as a racist if one stated this sentence: Some of my best friends are black.
Only if the White Democrats don't know that they're being screwed over. Now it's got a lot of publicity.
