McKinney rips Democrats for not stopping Iraq war

07/01/2007

The Associated Press

SAVANNAH — Former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney ripped her fellow Democrats in a fiery speech Saturday that accused them of failing to stop the Iraq war, ignoring the victims of Hurricane Katrina and failing to impeach President Bush.

McKinney, who lost her House seat last year after becoming the first black woman elected to Congress from Georgia 14 years earlier, took aim at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic presidential candidates and even the Congressional Black Caucus in an address to 350 people at a Georgia NAACP fundraising dinner in Savannah Saturday night.

She accused Pelosi of failing to address Katrina’s devastation in her agenda for the Democratic Congress’ first 100 days in office. She bashed the Congressional Black Caucus for voting to continue funding for the war in Iraq. And she criticized the major Democratic presidential hopefuls, as a group, for failing to stake out a clear policy on Iran.

‘‘From the Democratic Party to the Congressional Black Caucus to those habitual Democratic voters, we’ve lost our home team,’’ McKinney said. ‘‘Do we even know it?’’

McKinney didn’t say whether she’ll run in 2008 for  the 4th District House seat. Voters ousted her last year, several months after McKinney’s headline-grabbing scuffle with a Capitol Hill police officer.

This means that she will give the same speech to the “Congressional White Caucus”?

No? Well why not?

I received a note from Michael Yon today:

Greetings on this Independence Day.

When you see the fireworks and hear the booms, please imagine as well the sounds of jets and helicopters, and occasional screams, and you’ll have at least some idea of how it sounds here at times.

Please read “Bless the Beasts and Children.” A warning to those with children: some of the photographs in this dispatch may be too graphic for young ones.

God Bless America.

Why don’t you have a look at what your “heros” are doing in Iraq, Theran Cindy.

What principles does she have?

Hatred of America? You count that as one of her principles?

Hatred of capitalism?

Hatred of white people?

Those are all principles to you?

Actually, I kinda miss her looniness in congress. At least she was entertaining and gave us something to laugh about. No one takes (took) her seriously, even the democrat leadership. Too bad the district she represented (twice, I believe but in alternate terms) decided to take her out and put in a serious democrat. She actually properly represented the district that elected her, I think. They voted for her, they got her!

Yes, yes, yes and yes. We may not like her principles, but they are principles just the same. She’s got the guts to stand up for her convictions. Of course, a lot of good it’s done her. She’s on the outside looking in.

She’s been a lot of fun over the years, and has helped us get conservatives elected. From my perspective, a stupid Democrat is always better than a smart one, and she takes the cake.

You might have a point about her helping us get people elected, just by being so repugnant.

But I refuse to acknowledge that vitriolic hate, and that abject treason, are principles.

Hitler was obsessed, but he didn’t have principles.

The word ‘principles’ has meaning and Stalin, Hitler, Mao and McKinney don’t get to use it.

“Sometimes morons and clowns have principles.”

Not in her case. The pathetic woman could not even define the word principle... I have no idea how you can come to such a conclusion.

You’re giving a qualitative meaning to the word “principles.” All it means is that you’re consistent, and she certainly is.

There are enough other loonies in Congress to keep you occupied. Maybe many here in the US never took her seriously, but I’m sure her impression on other world leaders was ‘out there’.

I’m glad she’s gone from Congress...however, like bill clinton and jimmah carter...she really won’t “just go away”.
