I would guess that Hilton is the first prominent purchase on Red China's behalf by Blackstone:

China to buy stake in Blackstone

The State Investment Company, a State foreign exchange investment company soon to be established in China and The Blackstone Group LP announced today that the State Investment Company has agreed to make a US$3 billion investment in Blackstone in the form of non-voting common units.

The deal is in an effort to diversify its US$1.2 trillion in foreign-exchange reserves beyond United States Treasury bills and into commercial enterprises.

The deal, which is set to coincide with Blackstone''s US$4 billion initial public offering (IPO) this year, will give China a roughly eight percent stake in Blackstone, which owns companies that have 375,000 employees and US$83 billion in annual sales.

It would also represent a watershed for the booming private equity industry as it tries to gain a foothold in China.

The purchase price per common unit will be 95.5 percent of the public offering price in Blackstone''s planned IPO. The number of non-voting common units purchased by the State Investment Company will be reduced if necessary so that the State Investment Company''s equity interest in Blackstone immediately following the planned initial public offering remains under 10 percent.

The State Investment Company has agreed to hold its investment in Blackstone for at least four years.

Lou Jiwei, head of the working group of the State Investment Company, said: "We are very pleased to be able to make the State Investment Company''s very first investment in such a well-respected firm as Blackstone."

"It''s a historic change. It''s a paradigm shift in global capital flows," Stephen A. Schwarzman, chairman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Blackstone, said in an interview. He called the Chinese government''s decision "huge" and even "surprising" to him.

"We are pleased to welcome the State Investment Company as an equity owner of our firm. We are proud to be part of such a significant transaction for both of our organizations," added the chairman.

China will invest in the Blackstone firm itself, not in its funds, which invests in companies. However, the relationship opens the door for China to invest in Blackstone''s funds in the future. China has also promised not to invest in a competing private equity firm for a year.

Blackstone has been moving aggressively in recent months to find investments in China. Blackstone is trying to catch up to the Carlyle Group, which has a large operation in China.

In January, Blackstone hired Anthony Leung, the former Hong Kong financial secretary, to run the group''s business in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. And last month, Reuters reported that Blackstone was seeking to acquire a stake in the Guofeng Group, one of China''s largest makers of plastic products.

Blackstone is planning to open offices in Hong Kong and Beijing this year.-China Daily

I hope Blackstone improves Hilton...my experiences at some of their Hilton hotels - that is, the high-end ones bearing their name - have been less than stellar, and I really wouldn’t spend big bucks to stay at one. The lower end of their group is actually much better.

My experience with Homewood Suites is not so hot, but I may have stayed at one owned by a bad franchisee. I complained to the corporate office and they got on it, tout de suite. They were very professional about it, as well.

Hilton is famous for putting a lot of money into the glitz factor when you first walk in, but cutting corners everywhere else.

The Waldorf-Astoria is supposed to be their crown jewel, and everything besides the major suites, lobby, and ballrooms was in horrible shape.
My company sent me to stay there when on business many times over the past years.
The elevators were breaking down constantly and the hallways and rooms smelled horrible.

At least she doesn’t trash our country and our President like other lalaland idiots (horsehead julia roberts and lamebrains matt damon and ben affleck immediately come to mind).

Interesting, a Paris Hilton fan in this forum.

I myself was not so much a fan of hers, but after the ordeal she has been thru, she has earned my respect and sympathy.

Yes, Ms Hilton is actually a very nice girl, she does not seek to offend, but her problem is that she has allowed a very negative public image to be built up around her.
This is mostly her own fault.
She should go on Greta van Susteren and try to correct the inconsistencies she gave in her Larry King interview.

Hell, Ann Coulter defended her, her rights that is.

Yes, Paris Hilton is a very attractive girl and I am glad to see that her stint in prison did not mar her in any way, physixcally or spiritually.

I hope she she archives happiness and some public acceptabiity, but she should do some charity work(to fiught the image of being an indolent rich girl)

Well, she is not hooked up with him anymore!
Especially since he has been blacklisted from many clubs.

Her current romantic interest is Stavros Niarchos-
he seems to be bonded to her.

She once dated Joe Francis too, and that is past history.

The girl is popular with many men(like her co-star Chad Michael Murray from House of Wax)

The people that express anonymous hate for Paris Hilton on the Internet are simply projecting - part of them wishes they had her body and her social status.

This is most true, many people envy her wealth and fame, some would argue that she has earned neither but that can be said of a lot of celebrities and the ‘well-to-do’.

The problem with Paris is she has allowed herself to become a cardboard image of conspicuous consumption(Me thinks she realizes this too, and is trying to maintain a lower profile)

In the end, Paris Hilton is famous and well rewarded because we the Public are obsessed with her, good or bad.

In the past, I just ignored her, did not love nor hate her, just thought she was vapid and a bit tawdry.

Now I see a a very beautiful and vulnerable(albeit somewhat immature) young woman. She provides us a diversion from the troubles of the world.

She is famous because we like to watch her, for her beauty or her one trainwreck after another.

You have to admit that her own behavior has made her a less-than-sympathetic character.

HOWEVER...

Since finding out how sadly mentally-slow she is, I do feel pity for her. Before I thought she was just a tart. Now, I think she’s just a poorly-guided, special-needs character.

Well, she does suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder.

Her behavior over the years, her forgetfulness(like not paying that storage bin bill) does seems to demonstrate this .

Yes, her flakey tawdry behavior over the years has helped to whip up the lynch-mob atmoshpere that I find everywhere;
from the Press to the Public- conservatives and liberals all seem to hate her guts, especially those Harpies of MADD, and many women in general.

In the end, she is to be pitied, not hated.
