That’ll work! Thanks!
HaPPy 4th of July!
WOW!!! Thank you for naming me the Grand Poobah of Daytona...
Daytona Speedway, where anything can happen, and usually does.
Is Tony Stewart going to make history this weekend by winning his third consecutive Pepsi 400?
Nope, not a COT race. This is supposed to be the last Daytona race for the old style car.
Is Tony Stewart going to make history this year by winning a race?
You are welcome! Thanks for reminding me to put up a race thread.
I have kids, and sort of uh, forgot.
This may just be the place that he’ll do it.
I would much rather see KK scoot to the front and keep it all the way to the checkered flag. My boy needs the points!
I wouldn’t mind seeing Tony win one. He peaks at the end of the season, so he should be about due to start his run for the championship.
Happy 4th backatcha. You have email :o)
The penalties for the #5 and the #70 ave finally been announced —
25 driver and owner points, $25K fine for CCs and probation until 9/19.
RCR-DEI Engine Debut at Daytona: Earnhardt-Childress Racing Technologies will debut the new common engine package this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. JULY 7, 2001 Pepsi 400.
This will be the last PEPSI 400 so let’s go out with a bang.
ST Chocolate is in this one.
We could just about see the middle of the road and the rain has started again.
Que the duck!
Last time the COYY runs at Daytona?
See ya'll Friday/Saturday nites! Quite a racing weekend on the tube.
Yeah we’ve gotten it off and on today.
My family in California keeps calling to make sure we haven’t drowned yet.
Actually I like it this way, no sun, NOT hot!! :)
Still waiting on her too.
What’s taking so long. LOL
Here’s a little news from Jayski
Foyt to drive #49 at Daytona: BAM Racing is pleased to welcome Larry Foyt and associate sponsor Firehouse Subs to the #49 Dodge Charger for the Pepsi 400 this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Foyt will attempt to make his first Nextel Cup Series start of the season with BAM Racing this weekend. Although he has not competed this year, Foyt has accumulated many on-track hours testing at superspeedways in support of series manufacturer Dodge Motorsports. Firehouse Subs, founded in Jacksonville, Fla. by former firefighting brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen, will serve as an associate sponsor for the Pepsi 400 on the BAM Racing Dodge as well as on the Mac Hill Motorsports Busch Series car in partnership with Foyt.(BAM Racing PR)(7-4-2007)
Also I don’t remember if we have the penalties for the 5 and 70 posted. But Alan and Booty got 25 / 25 and probation.
Fideist posted it upthread, same for both 25 & 25.
Yup. Moving forward a la France Helton... je suppose c'est dommage.
Little boxes, on the circle track, little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes, all the same...
There's a green one, and a pink one, and a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.
FWIW, I was in line with Booty Barker in Lowe's garden section about a month ago. I think I was the only one who recognized him, but I couldn't figure out anything to say to him. He really moves in that chair in the parking lot. Kinda cool living here and running into (sometimes literally, apologies to the #5 team, again) some of the famous faces in racing. I was side to side with KK at a stop light not long ago and at the memorial day race last year, I swear that was Jr. coming out of the Soggy Dollar car wash in a red Corvette.
My son stopped at a red light and Smoke pulled up next to him.
Bootie was asked about the penalties against Knauss and LeTarte being a deterrence. He said “He// yeah! I don’t have a hundred thousand dollars!” That was Friday before the race.
It must be fun living in that area.
Here’s some news on the sponsor front....
Mountain Dew front-runner for Earnhardt
Pepsi’s decision to pull its sponsorships of International Speedway Corp. racetracks was the first step in the company’s plans to sponsor Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he drives at Hendrick Motorsports next year.
According to industry sources, Pepsi’s Mountain Dew soft drink now is the leader to sponsor Earnhardt Jr. next year.
ISC, which includes the Daytona International Speedway and half of the tracks on the Nextel Cup Series schedule, will have its deal with Pepsi phased out as contracts expire. Pepsi’s deal with Daytona includes Saturday night’s Pepsi 400, but that contract expires after the race.
Pepsi plans to re-direct the money it spends with racetracks to Earnhardt Jr.
Hendrick Motorsports is talking with several companies to sponsor Earnhardt Jr., the most popular driver in racing. Budweiser, Earnhardt Jr.’s current sponsor, is working to remain with him, but Pepsi’s Mountain Dew brand has become the clear front-runner.
DuPont currently has the most-expensive sponsorship deal in the sport at $20 million with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports. Mountain Dew is expected to challenge, if not beat, that standard.
Kahne wants out
Kasey Kahne’s frustration at Evernham Motorsports has forced him to ask out of his contract, according to Fox Sports.
Kahne reportedly wants the freedom to negotiate with Dale Earnhardt Inc. to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2008.
Dodge got a new front bumper this year, and so far it’s been a big challenge to figure out. Kahne has one top-10 finish this year and is 26th in the standings.
Didn’t skip a beat
When Tony Eury Jr. was suspended for six races for using an illegal bracket for the rear wing on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car, the team was ranked 13th in the standings.
As Eury Jr. prepares to return for this Saturday night’s Pepsi 400, he comes back to a team that’s 12th in the rankings and would qualify to compete in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
“Tony Eury Jr. has got his work cut out for him,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “Seriously, man - Tony Gibson (interim crew chief), I ran great with him. (Eury Jr.) has been laying out for six weeks. He’s got to come in here and work hard. I expect a lot of him.”
There goes the red.
Kahne reportedly wants the freedom to negotiate with Dale Earnhardt Inc. to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2008."
That's interesting. I wonder if his car will stay red.
We do have this car covered just in case. :)
I doubt it will be the 5 because it's too associated with the brat these days. Jr is working on numbers. It will have an 8 in it somewhere...see below
08* Trevor Boys [leased by]
81 appears open with ? Rousch but not active.
Don't think anyone would confuse Jr with Shrub, number may not matter (other than to the fans that have already picked 6.8). ;)
Sure hope Bud steps up for Jr. next year.
Pepsi is kind of Jeff’s thing isn’t it?
My crystal ball is still cloudy. :)
It possibly will boil down to the age of Jr and the inability for younger fans to wear his Bud stuff etc. Also, changing the sponsor AND the number will generate a gazillion dollars in additional merchandising money.
I personally still hope for Bud, at least in a Monster capacity., but it’s not looking positive.
