LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Al Gore's image as a rock-star eco-warrior gets another high-voltage jolt of celebrity endorsement Saturday when the music world gathers to raise awareness for global warming at Live Earth.
But despite a growing clamour for the beaten 2000 presidential election candidate to enter next year's race for the White House, the chances of Gore running for office again remain remote, analysts say.
Breathlessly described by admirers as "the coolest ex-US vice-president ever", Gore has consistently stated he has no interest in launching a 2008 election bid, while stopping short of unequivocally ruling himself out.
"I haven't ruled it out, but I don't think it's likely to happen," Gore said in a recent interview with Time Magazine.
Yet Gore's prominent involvement in events like Live Earth -- which will see over 150 stars perform in eight concerts around the world to urge governments to set climate change targets -- will inevitably breathe new life into calls for a 2008 White House bid.
However, Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, a political scientist at the University of Southern California, said she doubted Gore would enter the running.
"I don't think at this point he's thinking about it," Jeffe said. "He's having so much fun where he is," she added, referring to Gore's new-found status as crusading environmental campaigner, as evidenced in his involvement with the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."
"His image problems have been waylaid by 'An Inconvenient Truth'," Jeffe said. "What you see in the film is what you get when you meet him -- an Al Gore who is charming, witty and does have some personality."

Headline-wise, it's hard to tell which Al Gore will be taking center stage at "Live Earth"--- the one with rocks in his head, or the one who likes it "on-the-rocks"...
I feel sorry for young Al. Look who is father is. Gore the younger should be grateful that he didn’t kill anyone while driving under the influence.
If Live Earth does for Earth what Live Aid did for Africa, we’re all doomed.
25 years from now mention the name Al Gore and the likely response would be “Wasn’t he the guy that almost got the industrialized west to commit economic suicide before the Ice Age started?”
Livin’ hard, drivin’ fast, takin’ drugs...
Yeah, he sounds like a Rock Star...
Oh, wait a minute... I thought we were talking about Algore III
They should get the whole damn family up on stage and have them chase each other with butterfly nets.
Rush was going on about the electricity expended for the shows, the jets to take the “stars” to the venues, and the overall footprint these events will leave. Quelle hypocrisy!
Eco-hypocrite is more like it.
Raising awareness??? People are not aware that AlGore is concerned?
I wonder how much over-priced, sweatshop produced, throwaway junk they’ll be selling at these venues?
Hoisted on your own petard, huh? Shouldn’t have sold out.
The good news is that you know an issue is pretty much spent as a societal force when they start doing (Fill-In-The-Blank)AID concerts. Everybody goes out and has a good time, and they go back home and think it’s a good thing they solved that problem, whatever it was.
(Fill-In-The-Blank)AID is the second-to-last step before exhaustion of an issue. The final step before exhaustion, of course, is when John F’n Kerry makes it his Top Priority.
I’m going to have to make that a tag-line
I can't take it anymore . . . I'm going to hurl!
Live Earth Concerts Cause Global Warming!
What a surprise. This is all about him. He is trying to be “relevant” after the 2000 election was “stolen” from him when it was “his turn” to be President.
Apparently Albore, III has taken these kinds of articles too much to heart, for he thinks it’s time to “party like a rock star’s kid” while driving 100 mph and endangering innocent lives.
Nah, son. My dog Spiro Agnew came correct as a motha******, yo.
Just think, if it weren't for Ralph Nader we would be in the seventh year of the Gore Presidency.

Bad Weather Possible for Live Earth Concert
Hamburg, Germany doesn’t have a lot of really nice days in the summer. Typical daytime max is in the low 70s F in July. They get a lot of days with light precip (say 0.1 inch or so).
Here is the forecast for the Hamburg airport (near where the Save-the-Gore) concert will be July 7 (forecast from WUnderground)
Saturday:
Rain. Overcast. High: 62° F. / 17° C. Wind West 15 mph. / 25 km/h. Chance of precipitation 60%.
Saturday Night:
Chance of Rain. Partly Cloudy. Low: 53° F. / 12° C. Wind West 11 mph. / 18 km/h. Chance of precipitation 50%.
I presume the performers and other big shots will have a seat under a canopy of some kind.

“Breathlessly described by admirers as the coolest ex-US vice-president ever”
Were his admirers glazed-eyed and munching on junk food?
oh, come ON. HE looks like a used car dealer with dental hygiene problems. I can breathlessly describe him like that, too.
Maybe when Algore has saved the Planet and saved us from ourselves he will have some spare time to invest in the problems of his family. They obviously are crying out for his attention.
We would probably be in the 3rd year of the Bush or some other Republican's presidency trying to dig our way out of the deep dangerous hole Gore put us. Just look at what he did to our country in the first 30 days after the 2000 election. An event like 9/11 couldn't even bring us back together.
I don’t know about you folks, but in my old neighborhood “Rock Star” had nothing to do with Rock and Roll.....
Al Gore is NOT a rock star. Al Gore and his wife led GOVERNMENT CENSORSHIP HEARINGS so that he could take a presence on the national stage prior to his 1988 run for the White House.
It is sick to see history revised for political correctness.
Frank Zappa, John Denver, and Ice-T knew him for what he was. And those guys probably wouldn’t have agreed on too much.
LOL. I just love your insightful analysis! I sure hope it's true.
Oh, I know: "give me your money."
I’m reminded of another song.
Culturcide’s “They aren’t the world” (”They aren’t the world, they’re not the children, they’re just bosses and bureaucrats and rock and roll has beens...”)
I thought Aaron Burr was the coolest vice-president ever? Or if we’re going for communists, how about Henry Wallace?
He might as well be a rock star, because nothing he says as a politician makes sense.
“I thought Aaron Burr was the coolest vice-president ever?”
Teddy Roosevelt was definitely the coolest.
Why do Dems have such bad teeth?
Harry Truman was the coolest. Take that Tojo....and that.
This kid looks normal It’s his father that nuts!
GOing to Cuba for dental care?
I watched his face contort as he tried to control his arrogance and rage when a few politicians dares to challenge his global warming scam - James Inhoff in particular. He stiffened in his chair as if to say, how dare you contradict me you idiot, you are simply uninformed and stupid.. I know what I am talking about and I am determined to save the world from the greatest threat in man’s history..
If I didn’t despise this festering turd so much, I might have felt sorry for him. But it was clear we were watching a man out of touch with reality and totally consumed in his final desperate grasp to be important.
Al Gore is unbalanced and surely to God enough people in this country realize this guy is unstable.
due to the lib/dems screaming about the fairness doctrine....is nbc going to give scientists equal time (about 7 hours) to explain there is NO global warming???

My thoughts exactly! I’m not about to believe for a moment that the intentions of everyone involved are purely altruistic.
