And I do not know if it is the same...but I have seen an all black A-10 two seater [test aircraft] with a clear canopy, used to display geared up, precision night attack variant. Dont know whatever came of it though...

I'm guessing it was the same aircraft. Here's the plaque that was mounted in front of the A-10 in the picture. You had to stand right in front of the gatling gun to read it! :)

I would think there is a niche for a night attack all weather variant. I assume the dummies that wanted to originally cancel the A-10 outright played a roll in not giving ground to the night attack variant.

I thought that the two seater was cancelled because the avionics became advanced enough to where the pilot could handle night attack all weather on his own? At least that’s the impression I got from the plaque. I have not researched it beyond that.
