TORONTO (CP) - Microsoft Corp. plans to set up house in the Vancouver area this fall with a new software development centre that would attract talent without encountering U.S. immigration issues.
The location will be one of only a few development centres outside the company's headquarters in Redmond, Wash., Microsoft said Thursday in a release.
Microsoft added Vancouver to its expansion list, which already includes plans to build new sites in Boston and Bellevue, Wash.

They are going to find cheap labor in Boston??
ROTFLMAO!!
What a bunch of babies. If it weren’t for the H-1B scam, which is actually discouraging Americans from going to college for computer sciences there would be plenty to choose from. Microsoft just wants cheap labor and I’m sure if they really really looked they could still find plenty of unemployed tech programmers right here in the states to hire.
I have such hatred for companies who worship the H1-B. Microsoft has to have their cheap labor! God forbid they hire some real software engineers who can fix their software’s reputations. But, that would mean they have to pay them < 80K a year and Billy won’t stand for that.
Their quality has gone down the tubes the last few years. Windows XP was a decent OS but Vista, IE7, and Office 2007 are horrible. You get what you pay for and the cheap foreign labor they’re hiring is proof of it.
Thank you!! Agreed. I love XP pro, I still run it on my rigs. They’ll have to drag me kicking and screaming to Vista.
Actually Vista is technically far superior to XP especially their non-executable stack implementation.
It’s actually a decent OS though I don’t like the new user shell very much.
And I am a long time UNIX bigot - so that’s a lot coming from me.
I also like Office 2k7.
Not me, I prefer the old style customizable interface with drop down menus, especially in Office. Tasks that were only one or two clicks away before now take 5 or more in all their new software. Microsoft has a habit of doing that on every upgrade. Instead of making things simpler it’s always more complicated. It’s why I still find myself booting up in 98SE where I can use some of my old programs that work beautifully and without the bloat.

I like the ribbon. It changes depending on what you’re doing when you do a lot of intense document formatting like I do. I haven’t gone back to 2003. I don’t like Open Office. I keep an XP SP2 VM around for Office.
Well I’m glad you like it though you sound more like the exception than the rule these days. Distaste for Vista is so bad apparently that Microsoft is allowing for easier “upgrades” back to XP due to overwhelming demand. And the same goes for Office, the ribbon concept isn’t bringing the house down.
