ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank.

This says more about McQueeg than it does about Paul No it says something about those freepers who claim that Ron's support is all smoke and mirrors or spamers....though I doubt any of them care about the facts.
To: Austin Willard Wright
I think this speaks more to McCain’s appalling hubris, a hubris that manifests itself in outrageous over-spending and mismanagement of scarce resources than it does to Ron Paul’s fund raising operation. But reasonable people can disagree.

I'm not sure how happy I'd be to be doing only slightly better than a candidate who is circling the drain. But I guess it's better than doing worse.
In any case, the good thing about having Paul in the race is that he'll continue to challenge the other candidates on Constitutional issues.

All this demonstrates is there are far more kooks than McCain supporters The "real polls" so valued by the anti-Paul contingent say otherwise, that is that McCain has double digit support. The Paul haters can't have it both ways e.g. constantly cite the "real polls" to bash Paul then ignore them when the mood suits them to bash him again.
To: VfB Stuttgart
Perhaps there is a remnant of the GOP that believes it should be the party of freedom, the republic, borders, and the Constitution? I sure hope so.
btw, I don’t intend to vote for Paul in the primary. But I certainly do not hate his presence in the race. I think it’s awesome, in fact.

Says much more about McCain than Ron Paul Sour grapes. That line is getting tired. McCain is at double digits in the polls but Paul (whose support has been dismissed here as nothing more than a few creative spammers) beats him in the money race.....and also many of the other candidates such as Hunter.

What is says is that Dr. Paul’s positions are far more aligned with the general public’s than those of the better known candidate mccain.

Interesting comments... (and yeah, I agree with this guy. Giving his great-grandkids a chance at freedom is worth more than all the money in the world in the direction we are currently headed...)
I am 60 years old. I have always voted for smaller government and to uphold the Constitution. I have never gotten what I voted for. Today I put my home up for sale. I am taking the proceeds and going to spend it promoting Ron Paul. That is the best way to spend my grandchildrens inheritance. They will benefit more by having President Ron Paul than having $100,000 of fiat money. Our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honor. The Revolution has begun. The front row is asleep already.

That McCain or Guiliani were EVER considered a “front-runner” for the GOP nomination, should be a serious badge of shame for the Party leadership.

Ron Paul’s new slogan:
Ron Paul, doing a job that even McCain can’t do.
Bwahahahaha!
To: Austin Willard Wright
McCain lit the fuse to the gunpowder keg he was sitting on when he decided to be as wrong as you could possibly be on the immigration issue, not to mention the ridiculous McCain-Feingold assault on the 1st Amendment.
I honor his service to our country but just because you were a POW doesn’t mean you are qualified to be the President of our great nation. John McCain is absolutely unqualified.
I wish Audie Murphy was still alive today . . . that man would have made a great leader of our nation.
To: Austin Willard Wright
I’ll believe it when he reports it to the FEC.
And FWIW, Fred could have that kind of WEEK. L. Ron is depending upon the same crowd who can’t remember where they put the marijuana legalization petitions and some DU moonbats who want to jack up the GOP race.
He has a FEW good ideas, but he ain’t gonna be the one to carry them to Penn. Ave. come January, 2009.

It certainly doesn't bode well from McCain, but you have to admit, Ron Paul is exceeding what anyone would have expected six months ago.
Kinda like debating who is the smarter of the two kids on the short bus.

If you are betting on Fred, think again. Fred has the albatross of a Wilsonian war around his neck.....and that is getting heavier all the time.
To: bnelson44
It certainly does, but you’ll never get the Paul supporters to admit it. I can’t for the life of me see how some one who supports Paul as a legit candidate refuses to even look to see where his money is coming from and gets excited over a “surge” in the polls that still has him at 2% or lower in the majority of them.

Be honest - if someone had told you 6 months ago that Ron Paul would soon be beating McCain, Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, and Sam Brownback in cash on hand, would you have believed it?
Actually, yes. After the support Perot (the original empty suit) got in 1992, nothing surprises me anymore. Then again, where is that wingnut-looking little troll these days, anyway?

gets excited over a surge in the polls that still has him at 2% or lower in the majority of them. Interesting. The Paul bashers cite the polls when it suits them but ignore the fact that McCain (who Paul has bested in fund-raising) leads almost all the other candidates in these same polls including Hunter, Tancredo, Gilmore, and (often) Romney. The facts will never persuade someone who refuses to be "confused by the facts."

$2.4 million in cash on hand
1. That's cash on hand, not funds raised. You can artificially elevate that number by not spending anything.
2. With Ron Paul's comments insinuating that America was to blame for Islamic Jihad, you have to wonder how much of that comes from the left.

A laughable moron who regularly gets elected in a conservative district in Texas with 60 to 70 percent of the vote despite being ostracized by the GOP leadership and holding such radical pro-Constitutiion/anti-Iraq war views? Don’t understimate him. Most of the top or bottom tier can’t equal a record like that.
