Al Qaeda Admits Changes in Terror Tactics

Confirmation From al-Qaida-Linked Group on Attempted Use of Nuclear Weapon, Ties With Iran, and Failed Assassination Bid Against US President and Jordanian King

Analysis: By Gregory R. Copley and GIS Staff.

US intelligence sources have indicated that US counter-terror analysts were looking at what they felt were “changes” in targeting and methodological doctrine by al-Qaida-linked jihadist terrorist groups.

In particular, the translations of the information on the website which provided the basis for the assessment were believed to highlight a new “low-tech terrorism” against targets in the West.

GIS/Defense & Foreign Affairs analysts, who have viewed the entire context of the comments on the website, however, believe that the remarks presage not only a widening of doctrine (not a replacement of existing targeting doctrine), but also give new information confirming other major, and hitherto unconfirmed, data about al-Qaida strategies and linkages.

New revelations on a website connected with the al-Iqlas Islamist movement have provided confirmation of:

(a) Al-Qaida’s acquisition of at least one nuclear weapon (believed to be a Soviet-built “suitcase” nuclear weapon), and its consideration of use in a “spectacular” operations (believed to have been the US Republican National Convention in 2004 in New York); and

(b) Confirmation that so-called al-Qaida operations were intimately known to the clerical Government of Iran, which essentially controlled an “al-Qaida” mission in November 2006 to assassinate US Pres. George W. Bush and Jordanian Pres. Abdullah Bin Al-Hussein.

"throwing handgrenades in New York streets can be more devastating than another 9/11"

each incident kills fewer at a time but instills a wider fear in a broader population sector when in multiple repetitions.

There is a drawback to numerous small attacks from a terrorists point of view.

They count on the fact that they have a large number of defenders in this country. A sustained campaign of terror on American streets will destroy their support base among leftist Americans.

This is highly intriguing - but is it credible?

The part about a potential NYC nuclear attack at the GOP convention being called off for theological reasons is correct, I do know that. It is the reason why Osama bin Laden released his message later in 2004, right before the 2004 presidential election (according to Islam, you can't kill civilians without giving them a chance to repent and convert first).

For all of the sidewalk psychology dished out by so-called 'analysts', liberal talking heads, and various and sundry other 'experts', did it ever occur to the heathen Islamic rabble that the subconscious makeup of this country is just slightly more akimbo than the Old Europe they terrorize and manipulate? They seem to think that the United States is nothing more than a collection of little Frances and Belgiums. The visceral, ground-level reaction to 'hand grenades in the street' might be just a tad more Draconian than they expect from the sheepish Western apostacy.

Read into that what you will.

Also, if President Bush was assassinated in 2006, I am quite sure a President Cheney would have totally unleashed the U.S. military. Which we haven’t seen since World War II, in my own opinion.

Maybe this is what it will take to give us back our backbone as opposed to soft appeasement.

Interestingly, we’ll probably never know if they were caught with a nuke and stopped. Or if they tried to set one off and it simply didn’t work at all. There’s always the possibility of these happening.

As long as the firm logic of your ends and the grim determination to persue them reigns supreme, then yes. Focus on the issue at hand, and no more.

In view of this recent threat. Reinstate the draft and have several subs strategically positioned to nuke Mecca, Medina, Tehran and Damascus at a moment’s notice. None of that petty Hiroshima style stuff we want to be able to feel a tremor through the ground in New York when Mecca vanishes.

total crap but interestiong reading. The whole bomb in the tunnel plot is stupid. It would have been simpler to bring the bomb in a trunk of a car within a couple of blocks of MSG where it would have done more damage. Not to mention, they dont really have a bomb. If they did, they would have used it.

“US sources indicated to GIS that it was now entirely possible that the Republican Convention plans by the Islamists included the attempted destruction of the entire convention site at Madison Square Gardens through the use of a “briefcase bomb”, a miniaturized nuclear weapon. It was believed that al-Qaida had at least one such weapon which could be transported beneath the Madison Square Gardens site, which sits atop the New York subway rail system and the Penn Station main-line railway terminus. Significantly, it has been confirmed that the rail links under Madison Square Gardens — which carry some half-a-million commuters a day — would not be closed during the Republican convention. [US Secret Service and other security/police bodies, as well as Amtrak, the main-line rail service, have, however, instituted a wide range of security measures for the duration of the Convention.]” “GIS sources said that the analysis about the possible attack on the Republican National Convention entailed more than speculation, but were based on direct statements from Islamist sources who had, in the past, proven credible and accurate.” Ultimately, the jihadists’ plan was aborted on instructions from Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri because of theological rather than operational reasons (such as fear of discovery by US security authorities). By Summer 2004, the jihadist élite was still immersed in a hot and profound debate about the permissibility of using WMD – particularly nuclear weapons – against civilian targets in the United States. At stake was reconciling Islam’s forbidding of the international killing of innocent civilians at war and the “shield fatwa” permitting foreknown collateral damage if it is a prerequisite for spectacular strikes. The jihadist leadership refused to approve the nuclear strike until the theological debate was resolved. It would be resolved – with an explicit permission to use nuclear weapons – only in Winter 2004/5.

Exactly. If this happens enough, then people will start attacking Muslims (or even people who look Muslim) just for walking into the room. Of course, then more of them will leave for home. Not such a bad outcome after all.

A sustained campaign of terror on American streets will destroy their support base among leftist Americans.

Maybe, but I don't think we can be sure that that would be the effect. (It hasn't been in Europe thus far). The American Left hates American conservatives far, far more than they hate foreign terrorists. Anything they can use to demagogue and gain advantage over their internal political opposition will be used by them for that very purpose.

They want to destroy "our" America as much as the Islamists do. They just want socialism to replace it, not Sharia. They don't believe the Islamists will be strong enough to subjugate Americans, but perhaps they do think they might be useful in destroying American conservatism, so that the Left can then have what they want the most: The field to themselves -- total power that can never be lost again.
