You guys have been absolutely terrific in locating sources, so for you new/film experts out there:
I have a grant to produce a television pilot, tenatively called "How Ronald Reagan Won the Cold War with a Speech," about the "Star Wars" speech. We begin filming interviews and so forth tomorrow.
I'm still trying to acquire actual news clips of the Iran hostages being taken or released; the Grenada students kissing the ground; the mujaheddin vs. the Soviets; and Daniel Ortega meeting with Congressional leaders.
Has anyone acquired news clips from the major news organizations before, and if so, do you have a point of contact(and a rough price of what they charge)?
Thanks. Freepers never let me down on this stuff.

I wish I could help but those are contacts I do not have. Please keep us informed about your progress, though. It sounds fascinating. One part of the Star Wars story that I feel is underreported / under-appreciated is when Reagan asked what we do if there is a missile inbound, he got the answer “ride it out,” and he said that was unacceptable. Is that not the genesis of Star Wars? IIRC, it was mentioned in that tribute to Ronnie aired as part of the funeral coverage on C-SPAN. Peggy Noonan was there along with several others from his administration.

I would also try the Reagan Library.

Try the
National Archives' Motion Picture and Moving Images Branch. It has a tremendous collection of public domain footage of just about everything important that has happened in this country since the early part of the 20th century. If you need to hire a private researcher in the DC area who specializes in retrieving the footage, email me privately, and I'll send you her name. She does excellent work at reasonable rates.

Good luck with your film. But I know one thing, PBS won’t be showing it. Or, for that matter, CBS, NBC or ABC.
Guess we’ll see it on FOX.

Reagan asked what we do if there is a missile inbound, he got the answer ride it out, Reagan was a cowboy, he could have done that.

Actually, as Paul Lettow (”Ronald Reagan and His Quest to Abolish Nuclear Weapons”) shows, RR was deeply interested in finding an alternative to MAD even as governor, which really pre-dated that comment.

OK, I think we have enough now. Everyone has been most helpful.
BTW, filmed today at Wright Patterson AFB Museum in front of the B-1 bomber and F-117 Stealth, and in front of a line of Minuteman missiles. Really cool.
