The Cub Scouts don’t have heavy artillery.

One of my favorite lines from Good Morning Vietnam.

These days your financial background will sink you faster than a stone. You MUST have a good credit history and be VERY honest and up front on your TS application paperwork as well as your interview.

Make sure that the people you give as references are easy to find or that will really slow down the process.

Any criminal history, even tickets and such, should be mentioned up front too.

I have gone to bat for several of my folks on clearances, as long as they were always honest with me from the get go.

Bear,

A Top Secret (TS) is easy, just dont lie, not even a little one. You can be an ax murderer and still qualify for a TS. All you have to do is enter the proper paperwork.

Actually thats a teeny weeny over simplification but what it means is that the Army wants to know that they can trust you. It’s that simple.

Just fill out the forms as completely as possible and use the remarks boxes extensively to clarify information that can be confusing.

Along with combat arms, Logistics and some Intel have Star MOSs going on right now.

I’m an 88N (Transportation Coordinator) and our MOS involves alot of intel work (especially in senior enlisted ranks) along with coordination with superiors.

If you ever wanted to be able to tell a General where he could, and could not go (and when/how he could get there)... yeah. :)

Good luck to you!

‘Lifestyle’ polygraphs can throw ya’....don’t lie....

For paper work, get all addresses, etc... AND let folks know ahead a time that a guy in a SUIT will be showing up at their door...it tends to frighten your parolee friends...

I got $10K for joining the reserves.

I've heard of that.Recently I was at a nearby mall and saw a National Guard recruiting pamphlet that seemed to offer *all* enlistees a fairly large bonus (I only glanced at it so I'm not 100% of certain of its exact contents).

I've heard though, that a cook going active duty can get up to $20K depending on what time of year they enlist.

One would think that they might constantly establish, discontinue and adjust enlistment bonuses as needs change for enlistees in general or those who agree to enter certain MOSes.

September is the beginning of the fiscal year for the Army, so you get a bigger bonus sometimes at the beginning of the year. Other times, if the Army still needs 26Whatevers at the end of the year, they bump up the bonus for that one then.

However, some MOS’s, like cook, are a pretty constant for bonus.

The only downside to the bonus is it is heavily taxed. 25%. My first check, I was like “Where’s the rest?”

I salute you... but have you considered the possibilty that YOU might end up saluting Hillary?

I'd recommend a stint at DLI. Arabic speakers are going to be worth their weight in gold.

With a military background and language skills the FBI or some other 'agency' would take a good hard look at you.

anything where you can pull a trigger is good, because once you get stuck in that s#ithole sweating your ass off, doing some pointless bulls#it, you’re likely going to get the urge to kill somebody.

I don’t know about that,.... at a recent Scout Show a Pack’s WEELOS DENs and their Dad’s Made a Trebuchete that launched Basketballs into a net 50 yards away and another Pack’s Den (with Dad’s help of course) made an Air-Cannon that shot basketball size nerf-balls into a net some 25 yards away. Two of the most popular booths that weekend.

The Den Leaders said it was to learn about tools for the boys to earn Handyman Pin and the Engineer Pin.
