CBS EVENING NEWS anchor Katie Couric is being accused of slapping an editor -- after he injected a word she detested into a script!
"The stress has caused her to blow up at her staff for small infractions on the set," charges NEW YORK magazine reporter Joe Hagan, in a story set for publication on Monday.
"During the tuberculosis story in June, Couric got angry with news editor Jerry Cipriano for using a word she detested 'sputum' and the staff grew tense when she began slapping him 'over and over and over again' on the arm, according to a source familiar with the scene. It had seemed like a joke at first, but it quickly became clear that she wasnt kidding."
A top CBS executive tells the DRUDGE REPORT that no formal complaint has been filed against Couric over the incident.
"I sort of slapped him around, Couric admits to the magazine. I got mad at him and said, 'You cant do this to me. You have to tell me when youre going to use a word like that.' I was aggravated, there's no question about that.' But she says she has a good relationship with Cipriano. 'We did ban the word sputum from all future broadcasts. It became kind of a joke."
A CBS insider says Couric slapped the staffer in a playful manor.
"Look, it wasn't serious, whatsoever."
The magazine fronts the nearly 6,000-word expose with the headline: "I have days when I'm like, 'Oh my God, What did I do?' KATIE COURIC'S IMPOSSIBLE YEAR"

Katie has “jumped the shark”!
But ... ... ... did she call him a “FJB”?
I guess you can liken this to Joan Crawford and wire hangers.
As much as I dislike the CBS evening news and KC, I have to be a bit skeptical over the story, or the severity of the incident.
The timing of it is suspicious. They want her out pretty bad.
But what comes around, goes around.
Very nice. Very nice indeed!
Oh well just too typical of the lib loons mind set...they’re all idiots....very little depth...
Katie...it wasn’t sputum on that blue dress...get over it.
She’s the shark’s sputum.
‘Pop’ goes the weasel. Imagine if that were Rush, or Hannity, or Tony Snow, or W.F. Buckley...we’d never hear the end of it.
If you get slapped by a b#*ch, does that mean you’ve been b#*ch slapped? ;^)
Everyone call the network and leave a message on her answering machine: “Sputum, sputum. sputum, SPUTUM!”
Seriously, how can a newsreader object to any words she’s supposed to read? Did she get “sputum” confused with “semen”?
A decade from now Katie will emcee the rollout of the Boeing 797.
Typical diva behavior.
(Diva: a polite term for `world class b!tch)
Ecclesiastes isn’t quoted too often. Thank you.
Gil
yes!
I still remember her intolerably smug treatment of Dan Quayle. Until the dinosaur media actually gets some intellect, they are bound to have more cat scraps like this.
I think I see SPUTUM in your tagline.
A CBS insider says Couric slapped the staffer in a playful manor.
A “playful manor?”
Is that like a “fun house?”
Excellent point! Words have meanings, even medical words.
OMG she did Bette Davis reset LOL!
She can show the world her colon but she can’t say the word ‘sputum’?
Imagine if this happened at FoxNews?
What does ‘sputum’ mean?
BTW, liberals have NO self control or boundaries for behavior. They are people that REFUSE TO GROW UP!
What rhymes with sputum?
No, you only see an offering of refreshment to a weary soul.
Or Bobby Knight.
Get a grip, Couric.
Bill O’Reilly might slap the bitch back.
And this is news??!!
Jeez.
“A CBS insider says Couric slapped the staffer in a playful manor.”
Is that like a field, only smaller?
Exactly. What happens if she has to report on a volcano spewing lava?

She repeatedly slapped him and publicly berated him in a “playful manner”. Remember the hissy fit the media threw when Rush Limbaugh suggested that the panties on the head “abuse” at Abu Ghraib was like a fraternity hazing in terms of physical harm?
She could call it mucus spewed while one is hacking. Or she could just call it her nightly broadcast.
“Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
Actually, this has more to do with unchecked violence by women against men. Women are allowed to punch, poke, pull and slap men and not get called on it because they are supposedly “the weaker sex” and don’t hit hard enough to injure anyone. And men are loathe to complain because they’ll just be ridiculed and laughed at. the men aren’t allowed to hit back either. They simply have to “take it like a man”.
Doubt me? Watch how many acts of violence women commit against men on television - just in the commercials alone.
The CBS Evening News could do a three-part investigative series on the subject but somehow I doubt it would ever make it past the Managing Editor.
I gotta admit I hate the word too.
But anybody remember when GWB put his hand on somebody’s back, I think that German woman prime minister, and the press went crazy.
Do I see anger management class in Katie’s future?
Lock the bitch up for assault!
It’ll boost ratings.
Don’t you dare say the s-word around Katie, or she’ll go off on you. Stick with the safe words, like colon and rectum.
Maybe they were at Batman's house.
If CBS was smart, they would find a Brit Hume clone (are there any?) and put on a real news person; not some liberal looney, but alas, CBS is not smart...so when Katie officially moves from the anchor chair to 60 minutes, which is bound to happen, expect another liberal man to take her chair.
