Thousand of new volcanoes revealed beneath the waves

The true extent to which the ocean bed is dotted with volcanoes has been revealed by researchers who have counted 201,055 underwater cones. This is over 10 times more than have been found before.
The team estimates that in total there could be about 3 million submarine volcanoes, 39,000 of which rise more than 1000 metres over the sea bed.
"The distribution of underwater volcanoes tells us something about what is happening in the centre of the Earth," says John Hillier of the University of Cambridge in the UK. That is because they give information about the flows of hot rock in the mantle beneath. "But the problem is that we cannot see through the water to count them," he says.
Satellites can detect volcanoes that are more than 1500 m high because the mass of the submerged mountains causes gravity to pull the water in around them. This creates domes on the ocean's surface that can be several metres high and can be detected from space.
Data overload
But there is a multitude of small volcanoes that have gone undetected. The only way of identifying them is to manually find their outline on sonar measurements taken from ships.

the salty ocean is evidence #1 global warming is a lie..........the reason for the article (volcanos) is proof. Additionally there is not surprising evidence via the KNOWN number of bumps on the oceans surface.

The real question is: "After a couple billion years of this, why aren't the seas more salty?
neither of your assertions are true.one minerals were not the source and prove life scientifically beyond 22 thousand years........Carbon dating is science proveable to 14 thousand years and the “scale” is generated on assumption, not science fact.
About 15 yrs ago I was having an argument with a liberal foe regarding the impending doom of global warming.
He declared that sea temperatures were indisputably increasing and that this was conclusive proof of global warming. Because this around the time that geothermal vents were being popularized, I asked him how he could discount newly discovered underwater volcanic activity.
He quickly dismissed my query as nonsense in that way that the close-minded do in the face of unexpected ideas - very satisfying.

the oceans floor per this article is riddled with bumps or volcanic attempted activity, the number given 201,055 is what is seen or known today,how many more a month or decade from now ? More, certainly. So why so many there?
How close to the core is the oceans floor,Closer that sea level to be sure and where is there greater pressure on that oceans floor nearest to the core,Why below the sheer mass and weight of all that water as opposed to sea level and no water or weight.........
The sheer number of bumps is evidence the water and her weight can control eruptions under water...Not with out release or venting . To assume this news is new is silly

A salty ocean doesn’t boil or freeze to impass and
is a God given “blow out preventer” of the heat that
could generate unchecked.
There are massive gold deposits around those geothermal vents, where the mineral-laden water cools and the heavy metals precipitate. You are looking at places where profound wealth is right there on the sea floor.
Let’s have a class action lawsuit against all these volcanoes for causing global warming.
Then we can use the fines to buy Al Gore carbon offsets and offsets for Michael Moore’s flatulence.
There, global warming is solved. We’ve located the culprits, sued them with the help of John Edwards, and used the fines to buy Gore’s carbon credits.
End of problem. Let’s all go home, to the beach, to LIVE AID or whatever the latest celebrity self-toast concert is out there.
