Viewers don't warm up to 'Live Earth' coverage(last in ratings)

NEW YORK -- NBC's three-hour primetime "Live Earth" special, which included highlights from Saturday's global concerts, failed to generate much enthusiasm in the ratings.

The estimated 2.7 million viewers was slightly under the 3 million viewers NBC has averaged on Saturday nights in the summer with repeats and the Stanley Cup hockey playoffs on what is already the least-popular night of television.

It also performed below the Live 8 concert two years ago, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research.

The three-hour concert special from Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., drew a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 --- the same as a typical summer Saturday after Memorial Day.

The special was also just under ABC's primetime coverage of the Live 8 concert, which occurred Independence Day weekend on July 2, 2005. Live 8 averaged 2.9 million viewers and a 1.0 rating/5 share in adults 18-49.

Global Warming is this year’s Nehru jacket.

Poor Al - he’s again labelled a loser.

Now his celebrity friends will abandon him like the ‘fair weather’ creeps they’ve always been.

The estimated 2.7 million viewers

That number of viewers is probably accidental. Those viewers were probably in the middle of channel surfing when they suddenly thought about getting a drink or snack and didn't come back to the TV and thus the TV was accidentally on NBC for a period of time during the live earth concert. It happened to me but I did come back to the TV after 10 minutes and continued channel surfing.

2 BILLION tuned in..

The Oscars trots out numbers like this every year also - and it's just as ridiculous. Two billion people would be one out of every three people on the planet. Have any of the nitwits making such claims ever traveled outside the US? Why would they think that some farmer in China or brick-layer in India would choose to watch some preachy musicians they never heard of, assuming they have access to television in the first place?

I don’t understand it - the project had everything: bloated, has-been politicians trying to find an electoral platform, arrogant, coked-up rock stars flying in on private jets to tell us all to conserve, brain-dead celebrities emoting about a scientific issue whose basics are as far above their heads as Antares, money-grubbing promoters cashing in on the latest political enthusiasm, and lots and lots and lots and lots of garbage afterward to remind us all of what will happen to the earth unless we...well, unless we stop holding these idiot weepfests. I mean, what’s not to like?

I believe Gore’s viewers have been disenfranchised by Nielson Media Research who everyone knows is a front for Big Corporate Earth Destroying Oil. In reality all 6 Billion people on earth saw the propaganda concerts. /s

Well when the weather changes every day you can expect the chic crowd to become jaded and unenthusiastic with the scam cause.

Marie2:

Well, I made a point of not watching. I do what I can.

I had something better to do on Saturday - I watched the NASCAR BUSCH RACE and NASCAR NEXTEL RACE. Watching 43 cars going around the track at DAYTONA was more important IMHO then some has been musicians - yes Madonna is the top has been.

Don’t you know that well fed, well drugged, over amplified and over publicized loud mouths are the salvation of the planet?

Please listen to Al Gore. Inevitably, some consultant, somewhere, sold him on the idea of hawking global warming in order to keep himself in the public eye. In reality, it is a stick in the eye to most of us.

If a liberal sings in a forest and no one tunes in to watch it, does it make a sound?

Recount every viewer.

They forgot to count me and my buddy, "Dangling" Chad. We didn't watch either, but that won't stop them from counting us.

I didn't watch it. I'm getting tired of NBC's screaming liberal propaganda disguised as entertainment.

Dang, I missed all of it. They're all a bunch of carbon credit hypocrites, In It for The Money.

And apparently the rest of the world is growing tired of their hypocrisy.

If you were tuned in for 6 minutes, their methodology counts you as a full fledged viewer, as though you watched from beginning to end.
