I guess the Straight Talk Express is finally melting down. After returning from a trip to Iraq — something hardly likely to have lifted his spirits — John McCain apparently blew up at campaign manager Terry Nelson and chief strategist John Weaver over their out-of-control spending. In the end, he fired Nelson and Weaver then resigned: Weaver's resignation was the most surprising. He has been McCain's chief strategist and confidant for many years, playing a role as central to the Arizonan's political operations as White House senior adviser Karl Rove has played in President Bush's.
The only other person in McCain's inner circle as close to the candidate is Mark Salter, McCain's longtime top Senate aide as well as the co-author of his best-selling books and all his major speeches. Whew. So at least he still has Salter, right? Marc Ambinder reports: One Republican directly connected to today's events said that Mark Salter, McCain's long-time chief of staff and co-author of his five books, had also left the campaign payroll. But Salter will remain as an adviser.
The truth is that McCain would be a better President than Mitt or Rudy. The problem is that a lot of people (including myself) hate his guts and the bones they hang on.

Then he got elected to the Senate and collaborated with JFnK on the commission and said that their were no more men left in SEA. Then he restricted free speech in America. Then he fought hard and long for amnesty for Illegal Immigrants.

Sen McNut is just that, but, today, on the Senate Floor, discussing the War, he was magnificent.
Its absurd to say McCain is floundering because of Iraq.
The same argument would mean that crazy ole rPaul would be the front-runner.
It isn’t the first time they floated this moronic idea... last time they somehow forgot the gang of 14 BS he pulled, or the terrorist bill of rights he pushed, or now the immigration junk he was up to, or the near weekly 'maverick' backstabbing he would routinely engage in to win favorable media and Sunday show slots over the past 4 years (not so much the past 8mths)
Their congestive dissonance knows no bounds. And I’m not trying to be smart or funny or snappy or anything when I say that. They are quite literally derranged and mentally ill, a mass psychosis if you will. Case studies and entire senior theses could be written on it.
How can something be derailed when it was not on track in the first place?
Unfortunately, I can’t reach the fifty knives he has sunk into our collective backs over the last decade so I'm not in a forgiving mood...
Also, he is a loose canon who could have a Dean scream style meltdown at any point in the campaign.
Some how, I can`t compare the speed limit and supporting our troops.

In the coming days we will see a reaction against McCain from the MSM vultures who have long nurtured him as an apostate; They fully expected him to deal the President a death blow by defecting to the “Peace” camp upon his return from Iraq. They had set the stage for McCain’s ascension to “rock star” status as this generation’s Fulbright, and probably promised to buy his treason with enough “hero’s” coverage to buoy his sinking campaign, with a 3rd party if nothing else. Reid and Pelosi hinted a few days ago that a new “Fulbright” would emerge to denounce the policies of his own party and push the war debate to a tipping point. They believed that McCain was that man, and timed their propaganda surge to coincide with his eagerly anticipated return from the front. McCain’s condemnation would have been the centerpiece of their assault on the President’s policy. Whether campaign aides of McCain gave them reason to anticipate such a defection is purely speculative; I believe so. Perhaps the fact those same aides were urging him to buy political capital with treason, as a last ditch effort to gain political traction, was the reason for their termination. By sticking with the President, McCain has shown political courage, and if he continues to do so this nation will owe him a deep debt of gratitude, despite his folly on so many other issues. If only his arrogance and ambition hadn’t led him to seek friends in a pit of vipers, and counsel among fools, he would be hailed as a hero among conservatives instead of an insolent ally.

Well, there’s that too! I cannot abide an adamant pro-choicers (Rudy) and I cannot abide a pro-amnesty media-hound who gave us attacks on freedom of speech disguised as ‘campaign finance reform’ (McCain).

I'm sorry, but I differ over that assessment. I think he would be a cataclysmic disaster to our strategic and industrial preparedness. He is an outsourcer deluxe. He wants to end US aerospace supremacy...our domestic manufacturing base and R&D, which he calls "pork barrel" and... buy from the French.
Hopefully, the Amnesty Torpedo will strike a lot of the DC morons from both sides of the aisle. Their arrogance made them misjudge the American people’s anger on that issue.

Most of that is true. But why stop there?
A lot of us have a real problem with a certain candidate’s credibility. A certain candidate who declared he was Pro-choice while being elected governor of the most liberal state in the union. A certain candidate who now that he needs the GOP base to attempt to get that party’s presidential nomination, well, look and behold, now claims that he was pro-life all along. (Mitt)
I too respect him for his heroics in Vietnam. But I sure wish he would just pack it in now so he can preserve what little dignity remains.
Man the lifeboats. Oh, the humanity.
For that alone the man deserves our undying repect. Not necessarily our vote.
