No misdirection - the key problem is one of prosecutors being political. Make them civil servants and you remove (at least most of) the politics from their jobs.

Worth a bump on this day when Nifong admits there was no evidence of any crime committed by the Duke men. While the only crimes committed were by Nifong himself and the purported victim of the alleged attack (one Crystal Gail Mangum, who should be facing charges of her own but is not because Durham prosecutors apparently only have the guts to pursue cases against white men from elsewhere), a grievous civil offense was committed by the New York Times, which clearly libeled the Duke men in the course of its news coverage.

While Nifong should be bakrupted by lawsuits and all his sham transactions to protect his assets undone, the New York Times has far more money than he ever dreamed of and should be separated from a large portion of it. How about $10 million to each of the three Duke men and $5 million to their coach?
