Republican Senators John Warner, Richard Lugar Draft Bill Requiring Bush........
Fox News ^ | 13 July 07 | AP

WASHINGTON — Two prominent Senate Republicans have drafted legislation that would require President Bush by mid-October to come up with a plan to dramatically narrow the mission of U.S. troops in Iraq.

The legislation, which represents a sharp challenge to Bush, was put forward Friday by Sens. John Warner and Richard Lugar and it came as the Pentagon acknowledged that a decreasing number of Iraqi army battalions are able to operate independently of U.S. troops.

"Given continuing high levels of violence in Iraq and few manifestations of political compromise among Iraq's factions, the optimal outcome in Iraq of a unified, pluralist, democratic government that is able to police itself, protect its borders, and achieve economic development is not likely to be achieved in the near future," the Warner-Lugar proposal said.

Lugar is just a weak kneed son of a bitch anymore..I'm sorry he's from Indiana, heck I'm sorry he's still considered an American at this point.

Somedays I think he's still around just to make Evan Bayh look conservative to the locals.

Its not possible to express my level of disgust here without getting banned and lord knows lugar isn't worth that.

If Warner or Lugar want to perform the duties of POTUS let them run for president in the upcoming election. Until that time as senators they have the power to cut off funding for the war and that’s all the power they have. They and a few other RINO’s are cowards and are only pandering to the polls.

I’m sick of this. Let them pass their silly ass bills, let Bush veto it, and have all Republicans vote to override. That’s right, I want every Republican in the House and Senate to override the president’s veto. Get it thrown to the courts and let’s get it on paper that Congress meddling in the conduct of the war is unconstitutional.

The generals should run the war but this has been a very poorly managed war. Congress is the voice of the American people - that’s why we elect our represrentatives and Senators. They don’t just fall out of the sky. If a President and his men can’t come up with a plan that works, then who will?

If the President is can’t figure out a plan that works, he needs to be challenged and presented with other ideas by members of Congress, you know, the ones we elected?...or would you rather just eliminate Congress and make President Bush King of America?

"The generals should run the war but this has been a very poorly managed war."

Maybe you are right, but what if you are wrong?

As much as I would like an end, assuming I know better, or that they should have made different decisions from the ones that were available at the time is a sick exercise.

Over 10,000 Marines were killed taking just one hill near Amain France during WWI. That was just the first wave of 5 that eventually took the point.

10,000 Marines died taking Iwo Jima. 500 US soldiers were dying per week when Nixon took over as President. The list of sacrifices continues.

Now we have millions of pundents who think this current war is the greatest blunder in the history of war. Do you think the planners of the war considered all of the treason spewed out here in America, and the absolute collaboration of the US media with Islam-0-fascist propaganda? How much of that do you think contributes to the prolonging of this war? I personally think it is very significant.

They should have let them fight a real war in the first place and do what they had to do, give them what they needed to do it. Now they’re whining and complaining. Can’t win a war anymore, not with the socialists and the PC congress running (ruining) the show.

In now way shape or form is Congress our voice. THEY ARE THEIR VOICE. We have become byproducts of the system. They could give a shit less what we think. Why else would they push this shamnesty garbage when the American people are dead seat against it?

Disagree, the Senators have not got a clue, and your source for the war not going well is the Drive by Media.

Its not going well because its a WAR, there are unforseen circumstances in all wars. Realistic time frame for Iraq 10 years minimum. We are still in Germany now after WWII.

What is really happening, is the same thing that happened during the Vietnam War, the media and the politicos are destroying our will to fight.

We got ourselves a 50 year war on our hands.

Its time to buckle down and keep fighting, not pull the plug.

If there is one Senator with a clue, send me his name.

Consider this..... If Warner/Lugar can suck the Rats in on this and pass it over the veto, the President can refuse to act on constitutional grounds and tie everything up while it passes through the courts where it will be declared unconstitutional.

Further, impeachment won’t fly while the coutrt proceedings are dragging out

Congress has zero authority in this area. The president is the commander in cheif, not Congress. They can’t demand troop withdrawals (well, they can, but it doesn’t mean anything), they can’t pull the authorization. The only thing they can do is cut funding. The title of commander-in-cheif is held by one time, not 536.
