SWEDEN HAS MORE CLASSICS THAN CALIFORNIA - Sweden's greasers cruisin' in classic US wheels

Vaesteraas, Sweden - Thousands of mint-condition Chevrolets, Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles from the 1950's boulevard-cruise with Brylcreemed greasers draped over the steering wheel and rock 'n roll hits blaring on their radios.

You might think you've been transported back a half-century to small-town America but, no, this is a scene found in any number of towns across Sweden where the early days of the US car culture never went out of style.

They say they don’t make cars or houses like they used to, thank God.

... classic cars in Cuba as well. They also send our old phones to Mexico and other third world countries and give us the modern (disposable) phones.

all phones are just junk these days.

my aunt had a phone from the 30’s still functioning when she passed in 1993.

try that with the junk that comes out of china, etc.

“I’ve heard there are a lot in Germany, too.”

- I’m not an expert in this field, but I’d say you’re right.

Two other countries over here in Europe where classic American cars also are very popular are Norway and Denmark.

Those phones were manufactured by Western Electric Inc, a part of Ma Bell - AT&T, and I worked at the King of Prussia plant on 1601 Allendale road reconditioning those phones.

They were engineered and built to last over 50 years - and they did.

Things made today in almost any sector are just junk compared to them.

Buy, use for a very little while, throw away and repeat until you are dead.

What is quality?

“... classic cars in Cuba as well”

- Cuba probably has more classic American cars per capita than Sweden, or at least in percentage of their total amount of cars. However, some people say the Cuban cars seldom are restored to mint condition like the Swedish ones.

“all phones are just junk these days.”

- I’d say 99% of all ordinary phones are junk. I’ve bought all sorts of phones at various price levels during the last ten years and all of them have been completely useless.

I prefer to use cell phones, most seem to last for at least two years or so.

IMPRESSIVE!!!

To think some US citizens think we Europeans hate everything about America...

If the MSM and PC politicians of both our continents didn’t exist, we’d be the best of friends today. I’m very convinced of this.

Greetings from Sweden!

“Stolen classic cars end up in Haiti and the Dominican Republic lol”

- Over there, they are probably ‘slaughtered’, because these cars are worth more if sold by the piece due to the domestic demand for spare parts.

Helped “smuggle” a 1959 Caddy Beritz(sp?) convertible to Norway in the 80’s. Guy who “purchased” it fully restored it and built his house around it. Friends could sit in it in his living room. King of Norway borrowed it to drive during part of his yearly tour of the country. This guy told me there were 4 to 5 thousand fully restored classic American cars in Norway. A country of some 4 million people.I got a ride in a Daytona 500 pace car from the 70’s in Trondheim, Norway a 100 miles north of the Arctic circle in December. Not an ice car.

They don't drive yet and they have never been to the US, but they have wax in their pompadours, creeper shoes on their feet and rockabilly hits on their iPods.

My kind of people
