mericans See Liberal Media Bias on TV News Friday, July 13, 2007 Advertisment

By a 39% to 20% margin, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 25% believe that ABC, CBS, and NBC deliver the news without any bias.

Similar results are found for CNN and National Public Radio (NPR). By a margin of 33% to 16%, Americans say that CNN has a liberal bias. The nation’s adults say the same about NPR by a 27% to 14% margin.

There is one major exception to the belief that media outlets have a liberal bias—Fox News. Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans say it has a bias that favors conservatives while 15% say it has a liberal bias.

When it comes to delivering news without bias, 37% believe NPR accomplishes that goal. Thirty-six percent (36%) say the same for Fox and 32% believe it’s true of CNN. As noted earlier, just 25% believe the major broadcast networks deliver news in an unbiased manner. Results for other media outlets will be released over the next week.

Media fairness has emerged as a debate on Capitol Hill following the recent debate on immigration when public opinion overwhelmed the will of the Senate. Some lawmakers have called for a re-introduction of the “Fairness Doctrine” requiring stations to air competing points of view. Rasmussen Reports will release data on public attitudes towards that concept over the weekend.

Shocking discovery!

The thing most shocking thing is why only 36% of the people see it?

The significant piece of data here is that only 39 percent (conservatives) see a liberal bias. 61 percent don’t see it. Yes, that includes mainly people who aren’t sure, but that’s just fine with the liberals. 20 percent are too liberal to see or admit a liberal MSM bias. Another 41 percent are too stupid to see it. I’m not surprised by these findings, but no one should see them as evidence that the MSM is losing its clout. It’s just taking different forms.

Shocking indeed. Sometimes the sheeple surprise me.
I will never understand why they even watch the drivel that comes from the mainstream but the fact they are starting to realize it’s garbage is re-assuring.

“Only Fox News is biased.”

Which is why I changed the channel when Geraldo came on at 8. ;)

I was not polled, but I would be in the ranks of those who don't see it, because I stopped watching them long time ago. I know that there is media bias, I just don't see it.

I suspect that many people responded that they don't watch ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN and don't watch or listen to NPR news, which likely was the first prerequisite question.

Well, yes. The left 25%ile of the Bell-Shaped Curve..That would fit.

Now, the old term "Moron" was around a SB of 70. So, it just might explain it.

The home page for the Rasmussen report shows that there are 16% who are “not sure.” Which can be an honest answer, as network news is loosing viewership steadily. So the 61% you are worried about is actually around 45%. I agree, that’s not much of a consolation, but at least the contingent of those with their heads in the sand is below 50%.

Whaaat? National Propaganda Radio is hands down the worst of the lot. I don’t watch TV, surely the TV alphabet networks can’t be worse! I can’t stand but a few minutes of listening to NPR’s political demogoguery.

“Media fairness has emerged as a debate on Capitol Hill following the recent debate on immigration when public opinion overwhelmed the will of the Senate. Some lawmakers have called for a re-introduction of the “Fairness Doctrine” requiring stations to air competing points of view.”

Thats the money quote. See how the article skips from talk of bias in tv to the fairness doctrine which would have no effect on it and radio on which it would. Its fine that CNN and FOX compete for their viewships. Its wrong for the government to tell a particular radio station or network they have to “balance” their programming.
