mericans See Liberal Media Bias on TV News Friday, July 13, 2007 Advertisment

By a 39% to 20% margin, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 25% believe that ABC, CBS, and NBC deliver the news without any bias.

Similar results are found for CNN and National Public Radio (NPR). By a margin of 33% to 16%, Americans say that CNN has a liberal bias. The nation’s adults say the same about NPR by a 27% to 14% margin.

There is one major exception to the belief that media outlets have a liberal bias—Fox News. Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans say it has a bias that favors conservatives while 15% say it has a liberal bias.

When it comes to delivering news without bias, 37% believe NPR accomplishes that goal. Thirty-six percent (36%) say the same for Fox and 32% believe it’s true of CNN. As noted earlier, just 25% believe the major broadcast networks deliver news in an unbiased manner. Results for other media outlets will be released over the next week.

Media fairness has emerged as a debate on Capitol Hill following the recent debate on immigration when public opinion overwhelmed the will of the Senate. Some lawmakers have called for a re-introduction of the “Fairness Doctrine” requiring stations to air competing points of view. Rasmussen Reports will release data on public attitudes towards that concept over the weekend.

URINALIST’s WARNING!

A British ditty from the beginning of the last century:

“You do not have
To bribe or twist
The arm
Of the British journalist
Considering what he would do
Unasked
There is no reason to.”

Inspired by the “caveat emptor” principle of Roman law, which sounds a note of caution for potential buyers, media consumers should heed the unwritten warning, “Reader/Viewer/Listener beware.” And some Strong Criticism within the journalistic profession wouldn’t hurt either.

Caller ID and cell phones are making these polls obsolete.

Do polls fall under the no call list restrictions too?

By a 39% to 20% margin, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of liberals.

Let's just restate it the way the MSM would:

"By a factor of 2 to 1, American adults believe that the three major broadcast networks deliver news with a bias in favor of the liberals."

What Americans believe is insignificant compared to what actually is.

Research should attempt to discover the fact, and then compare that with the opinion.

This is anecdotal at best but I’ve had caller I.D. for about a year now. (Yes, I’m way behind the times.)

I used to answer all calls no matter what the I.D. number was. In my experience, all calls from “Unknown” were either solicitations from the Republican Party or pollsters and the occasional solicitation.

I don’t answer any calls from “Unknown” anymore.

Also, I don’t think cell phone numbers are even available to pollsters but I may be wrong about that. I live in WI but my cell phone # has a CA area code, long story, and if I was polled via my cell phone it would be useless info.

Rasmussen better re-check his numbers. The belief in a liberal bias better be more than a 19% plurality.

Some lawmakers have called for a re-introduction of the "Fairness Doctrine" requiring stations to air competing points of view

This is a biased statement of what the Fairness Doctrine seeks.

The Fairness Doctrine creates a monopoly of communication where the leadership of the two political parties control the debate and decide what the two "sides" are to any issue.

It is a grotesque limitation on freedom of speech.

Actually, I think this is funny. Mainly because 39% thinks it is liberal. And who is WATCHING the news on TV and the little 3? Liberals!!! Certainly not we conservatives. I have not watched any of the little 3, CNN, PMSNBC, etc., in over 10-15 years. I last watched CNN during the first gulf war!! If I watch any TV news, it is Fox. But, since they have fallen on the left side of life, I don’t even watch them anymore. It is the Internet and conservative sites that I go to to GET THE ACTUAL AND FACT NEWS!! Hell, even ESPN is left on news, taking shots at certain people when they can work it in. Certainly not the Marxist’s news networks.

I moved back to the States after 14 years in Japan in late 2004 and put my number on the do not call list immediately. I did it again when I moved to Alaska (and I understand about your cell phone because my cell phone still has a Virginia number). I answer unknowns because we get calls from Japan and they show up as unknown. But in that time I have never received a call from a poll. That’s why I wondered if they have to abide by the no call list.

Lieberals in the news biz simply won’t admit to their bias. That’s why the “Fairness Doctrine’ in talk radio is necessary to them. They can’t stand that conservatives admit their agenda and are still successful. No success for Air America? Great...we’ll force you to listen to a progressive agenda then. None of my lefty friends will admit that the nightly news, weekly news mags, every major newspaper, etc., has a lieberal bias.

When it comes to delivering news without bias, 37% believe NPR accomplishes that goal.

I understand 37% of American adults are drugged-up moonbats.

NPR is little more than the official party mouth piece for the DNC. Why one red cent of our tax dollars goes to these people is beyond me.
