It is a race to see whether the US can be salvaged, or whether the barbarians inside our gates will damage the US beyond repair, before saner heads can prevail. And I am not optimistic about which side will win that race.
I was there too, working as a Youth for Goldwater volunteer. I was in the public area, during the roll-call, sitting one row in front of National Reviews Magazine's William Rusher, one of the founders of the Draft Goldwater Committee. A great day for the country and the conservative movement. The nation has paid a terrible price for rejecting his candidacy.
I was but a wee babe, but my folks voted Goldwater. Dad was career Navy, and often he and friends of the family, spoke incredulously of Barry being labeled a “war-monger”... My Dad always said that the soldier is the last to call for war, as he is the one who must fight it, but if called, he should fight to win.
