U.S. Senate Democrats, hoping to raise pressure on President George W. Bush and his fellow Republicans to pull troops from Iraq, have scheduled an around-the-clock war debate starting on Tuesday.

"I think that the American people deserve what we're doing and that is focusing attention every minute of the day on what is going wrong in Iraq," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters on Monday in unveiling the rare marathon work day.

Reid said the Senate will stay in session all night Tuesday and into Wednesday to debate war policy and a Democratic plan requiring the pull-out of all U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the end of April 2008.

Democrats have all but publicly acknowledged that they will be unable to pass their end-the-war amendment because opposition Republicans are insisting on 60 votes for a victory.

Reid said that without the Republicans' procedural hurdle, a simple majority of the 100-member Senate would vote for the troop withdrawal, with "a number of Republicans" supporting it.

With recent polls showing growing U.S. public opposition to the war, now in its fifth year, and widespread frustration with Congress' lack of progress in ending it, Democrats have vowed to force votes in coming months on Bush's Iraq policy . . .

Besides legislation calling for a mandatory withdrawal of troops, other Senate amendments were likely to be voted on this week, including a Republican plan asking Bush to prepare to possibly begin withdrawing troops by year-end.

Democratic leaders dismissed any legislation that does not force Bush to remove troops. "The president won't change unless we require him," said Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat . . .

All you need is one Republican who objects to everything and calls a quorum call after every single Democratic speech. That way, ALL of the dems lose the night’s sleep, or else the Senate automatically goes out of session.

REID: “I think that the American people deserve what we’re doing . . .”

Like I’ve heard said:

AND - “We DESERVE the government we get!!”

I hate to say it - but it IS coming to pass!

I know one thing I would like to force....and that is Reid right into an Al Qaeda torture house in Baghdad and then ask his opinion on the war 24 hours later...if he even lasted.

They stab our soldiers in the back in plain sight and none dare call it treason. For God’s sake, Mr. Bush, just say it! The soldiers are fighting they deserve you fighting for them.

“focusing attention every minute of the day on what is going wrong in Iraq”

.

Every Democrat plan leaves Troops in Iraq, they need to answer for that.

Are we finally going to hear poor Exhausted Harry’s response to the question “What do you think will happen after we withdraw?”

Dingy Harry wants to go all night for defeat? He still won't get the 60 votes.

Isn't the "60 vote requirement" something the dim's pounded us with when they were the minority party. Shoe's on the other foot and it pinches a bit, don'tchano? As it stands right now I'd rather have the Senate in a procedural pi$$ing match then actually passing crappy legislation.

Well, the Vets for Freedom are going to be in D.C. tomorrow. I think the least we can do is bombard the Republican Senators with phone calls to their offices. I for one am sick and tired of hearing that “most” Americans are against the war. That is simply not true. Most Americans want us to WIN in Iraq and are not happy that we haven’t been tough enough. Sure we’re tired of a P.C. war.
