MUSKEGON COUNTY -- The village of Casnovia is being evacuated due to safety concerns, and emergency personnel urge people to stay away from the area.
A car containing seven sticks of dynamite wired to an alarm clock is parked in the driveway of a residence in the village, North of the railroad tracks.
The vehicle with the explosives inside is registered to the same person who owns the house it is parked near.

This is not known as a big ROP area, but you never know. Could just be a Mullet-American with a stump problem on the back 40.
This is the land of my forebears, so it caught my eye...

Not sure if 7 sticks of TNT makes for a “loaded” car or not, but it will cause a nasty bang.

Perhaps the owner thought this was more effective than using The Club.

Why not? Gives you a known time to detonation.
Exploding stumps in physical proximity are as unpleasant as anything else.
-—that’s poorly written; I blame the time. Anyway nobody said the clock is ticking (I know they haven’t said it isn’t, either).

This caught my eye too since I grew up, as a child, in Twin Lake. This isn’t too many miles away.

I suppose we’ll know more in the morning. Related WOOD-AM is my Rush’n’Sean station, and I have it on five hours early (on the way to work).

Still have kin up there; 140 years ago the family settled in Muskegon County. I think I’m down to one aunt and cousin still living close enough to call Casnovia home, but still out in the country.

The dune buggy rides at Silver Lake were a great thrill. When it reached the top of a dune and then accelerated backward the screams were profuse. Great fun!

A little more difficult to release it all at once, I imagine.
How much energy is stored in a hundred acres of deciduous forest? That would be statistically impressive, if a bit of a bust in the explosives department.

I’ve camped at the state park there, and at the Jellystone Park nearby :) Wouldn’t mind a repeat.

I grew up in Kalamazoo, and my parents and brother are still there. Our family vacations and skiing or camping trips always involved heading north in Michigan or up into Canada. We passed through those areas north of Grand Rapids many, many times. It was generally understood that once we passed Baldwin, we were truly on our way and at the beginning of “the north country”. Somewhere around Baldwin or White Cloud, we’d stop off for an ice cream cone - unless it was a ski vacation. I’ll never forget the red flannel underwear signs hanging in Cedar Springs. What a great part of the country!

Well....the event appears to be over. The postmortem may take a bit, as I’ve heard naught about the perp (the owner of the car could be an intended victim, after all). If there’s anything interesting in tomorrow’s news, I’ll pop by again.
Just...imagine if it had been Detroit or Des Moines or Denver, and not some hicka$$ “village” surrounded by Michigan cornfields. Along with the transformer or whatever in NYC, it could have been a nervous time.

"It turned out to be a novelty device, which was made several years ago," said Michigan State Police Trooper Rudy Gonzalez. "It was fashioned to be a clock, which looked to be sticks of dynamite that are bundled together, which at first glance would've looked like a bomb." Odd a teen would either buy or make his own clock which looks like a toy bomb....and odder still the stepmother "just" saw it, if it's several years old.
