Hunter said folks on the border want the fence to go up, and the fence would be 10’ high, DOUBLE fence with border patrol in between, which would be 50’, and then a stopper fence which would be 15’ high. Hunter said that he first wrote in a TRIPLE fence in his bill, but they found the double fence was effective, so double is all they need.

He said fence would go up around Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, and they should build the fence with 100 different countries at the same time to get it done.

He said it helped to have the voice of the people heard about the immigration bill.

Duncan Hunter's Border Fence

Upon completion of the "San Diego Primary Fence," it quickly reduced apprehensions at the Imperial Beach Station by about 80% with similar reductions noted at the Chula Vista station. However, apprehensions at other nearby stations doubled as much of the illegal immigration simply went around the fence. It was only when additional enforcement measures, manly manpower and detection support equipment, was added did traffic at those stations decline, although not as significantly as that achieved with better fences.
