WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Insisting his wife is not "manly," former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton Thursday against a rival Democrat's charge that she tends to "behave as a man."
"I don't think she's trying to be a man," Bill Clinton said on ABC's Good Morning America. "I don't think it's inconsistent with being a woman that you can also be knowledgeable on military and security affairs and be strong when the occasion demands it.
"I don't consider that being manly," he added. "I consider that being a leader."
The former president was responding to remarks by Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who is challenging Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. In a backhanded compliment, Elizabeth Edwards commiserated with Hillary Clinton's desire to appear as masculine as powerful men.
"You want to reassure them you're as good as a man and sometimes you feel you have to behave as a man and not talk about women's issues," she told Salon, the liberal online magazine. "I'm sympathetic - she wants to be commander in chief. But she's just not as vocal a women's advocate as I want to see. John is."

“She’s so cute when she pees standing up. Really.”
Or his wife... * cough * Edwards * cough *
Though this is hilarious that Clinton feels the need to address this. Even more hilarious is that Edwards needed his momma to come out and defend him.
I don’t think the question is: Is she manly? I think the question is: Is she a dyke?
Not a he, not a she, must be an it.
>>>I dont think the question is: Is she manly? I think the question is: Is she a dyke?
I don’t think there is any question about it!
. But she’s just not as vocal a women’s advocate as I want to see. John is.”
Guess John isn’t too manly, eh?
Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards should just run for President themselves and get it over with.
Well there is Chelsea Hubble.
For someone who is pretty much on her deathbed, this Edwards broad really gets around and picks a lot of fights with people.
Shhh - nobody's supposed to know
What does Bill know about “manly”?
Ooooo—that’s what I always thought.
Who, Hillshepsut, the Queen/Pharoah, wife of Ramthis?? Just because she wears a beard behind closed doors doesn’t mean a thing... It’s the Great Pyramid Scheme she and her husband are foisting on us that bothers me. And if she is not stopped soon, we’ll all be watching her as she barges down the Potomac to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Then, just to show her who’s boss, he kicked her in the balls.
Heh, how would he know, he’s never around her.
here`s the litmus test:
DOES SHE LIKE WOMEN ?
not ‘manly’ and not feminine...no sex appeal whatsoever...
Who accused her of being Butch??
Pray for W and Our Troops
“Then, just to show her whos boss, he kicked her in the balls.”
LOL! First “LOL” I’ve had all day. Thanks. :)
When Bill says something like this, you have to understand the proper context in which he uses the word "trying". (SHE IS A MAN, BABY!)
She’s jealous of all the women he had sex with and desires to do the same. What plans does she have for the the creative use of the side hallway near the oval orifice and the nearby sink?
My privilege. Go, Badgers!
Only Donna Shalala knows for sure!
If I’m not mistaken, the “traveling exhibit” from the Smithsonian has a great collection of some of the historical clothing our First Ladies wore at one time or another. It has all of these gorgeous ball gowns, Abigail Adams’ yellow “dancing shoes” and some of the cool clothes Jackie Kennedy wore, etc.
And then it has ‘The Beast’s’ green pantsuit which was the predecessor to ‘Old Crusty,’ her black pantsuit, LOL!
I’m sure Eleanor Roosevelt’s sensible, orthopedic clodhoppers are in there, too. ;)
I’m no “fashionista” myself, but Jeeze Louise! If that’s not a statement, I don’t know what is.
I will admit though, that ‘She Who Shall Not Be Named’ looked nearly human in that midnight blue gown she wore for her (pseudo) husband’s first Inaugural Ball.
Must’ve been a body double. ;)
You have a point.... I’ve seen the women that he has gone after... With the exception of one or two they have not been exactly models.....
lol. still chuckling..
Training Camp starts soon for both Badgers and Packers. Wa-Hoo! Time for a Road Trip to Green Bay, methinks! I haven’t hugged a Packer since I got to hug Reggie White way back when. Good Golly, that man was a HOUSE, LOL! We miss him every day. :(
Brett is amazingly big, too. 6’4”? (I’m 5’1”)
Remnds me of R Nixon’s famous words “I am not a crook”
Wish Hill would say “I am not a man”
That was a purely political statement if ever I saw one!
Hillary is one of the most "manly" women around, as Bill well knows!
Hillary has male genitals.
Oh, but you are.
Bet she has bigger gonads than Bill.
He wouldn’t know what a real man was if one punched him in the nose.
No wonder their marriage has been so blissful.
Hitlery is ALL woman and the cigar chaser would never, ever consider being unfaithful to the woman he loves.
Ann just says what we all think.
LOL When was the last time he checked?
She's not very womanly...
Bookmarking. Oh, this I’ve got to hear.
“Bill comes to Hillary’s defense, insists she’s not ‘manly’”
Neither is Edwards. I don’t see his wife coming to his defense... oh, nevermind.
Who was the comic that talked about Bubba Jeff and said (paraphrasing) "This guy was over 6 ft in high school! Was he on the O-line? No! He chose to join the band and wear the fuzzy hat!"?
Making libelous statements about Hillary's sexual proclivities only serves to bring the whole forum down to the level of moveon.org. We'll never be considered a serious medium until members learn to post responsibly.
