“I’ve done those hearings where the child was essentially a vegetable and the school was forced to provide services up the wazoo for a child whose brain scan showed that in essence there was no brain.”

That was our case. As I understand it, the kid was deformed and had only a brain stem; no cognitive function whatsoever. We still had to provide 52 week service, essentially somebody to sit and watch the kid breath. I feel sorry for his parents, but I feel sorrier for the hundreds of kids who could have used what the money could provide.

I grew up in the 50’s—60’s. There was no such thing as ADD, ADHD or anything remotely like that. We all went to school and passed, got our buts switched if we goofed off in school; and uneventfully grew into adults.

How do you explain how that could have possibly occurred without getting doese with adderal?

The blond haired blue eyed thing was just for sugar induced hyperactivity. I don’t think it was meant to be a reason for ADHD and ADD, that they are more susceptible to it. This was quite some time ago, on the order of 20+ years when stuff like this was just coming out. It worked for them, though.

But it's for the chhhiiiilllldreeennn...

Whine. Would you like some cheese with that?

What a crock. of course you're making it personal. There's no excuse for being so nasty; insulting people and making personal attacks, which is in violation of the posting guidelines, BTW. You can present you case without it.

I did too and yes there was. I can name every last one of the kids I went to school with that were ADD and ADHD. This is nothing new. 2 went to prison but they had other problems besides ADD and ADHD. I am still in contact with a few people from grade school and I know for a fact that one of them is taking Adderal for adult ADD. One was the class clown. He couldn't have focused on going to the bathroom if he had to.

That's a blow off statement for people that don't like it that things are different now and things like ADD and ADHD can be treated.

It's abuse and neglect to allow an bright and gifted child that has ADD/ADHD to go through school without the medication they need. That's the way of the world today and it is a gift from God, literally.

If a kid can sit there and PAY RAPT ATTENTION to a Video game or computer chat for hours, that is proof positive they can pay fricken attention and have no such deficit.

So by your argument, we dispense Ritalin like candy now and therefor the prisons are emptier than before.

You see how stoopid that sounds?

If you read some of the posts, you see what is happening. People believe whatever the doctor tells them is necessary, and they don’t seek out any source of information than that.

Our government schools have trained the sheeple well.

A kid I know was diagnosed ADHD by a psychologist and the school said to her parents, plain as day, that in order for the parents to get anything for the kid in terms of services that she had to be on drugs (so-called medication). The parents then told the school that was the case, not revealing that they were not giving the pills to the kid. The teachers pronounced how markedly improved the child’s behavior was on the drug. What that tells me is, as usual, problem behavior is in the eyes of the beholder and that the entire ADHD industry is a scam.

In total agreement with your post and we are engulfed in a tidal wave of lousy crappy parenting and the guilty need to man and women up because the present generation is coming up worse than any previous generation. God help us.

Post #46: And, no, I haven’t read the people you mention. I personally prefer to get information from the medical establishment including my family doctor who is damn good as well as the psychiatrist that first evaluated my daughter who came highly recommended.

I rest my case. How about you ? Have you read Block, Breggin, and the like ?

THIS Mary Ann Block? Do not dismiss as uneducated or ignorant those that don't buy into your particular brand of bias. I am alerting Halls and daGman to the hype you are spreading as fact.

This article would seem to indicate that you get a temporary (3 year) benefit in behavior with the side effect of stunted growth.

Both my sons temporarily went on ritalin at about second grade. The oldest was on it for two years; the youngest, for one. The oldest is now nearly 21 years old and stands 6'2", which is slightly taller than what his adult height projections were based on his height at two and years old. The youngest is will be 15 next month and is already slightly over 6' tall. Because his birthday is near the end of August, he is the youngest in his school classes, yet he is always among the tallest in his classes. Based on my experience, ritalin doesn't appear to have stunted the growth of either of my kids. Also, the youngest is adademically in the top 10 (not top ten percent but rather in the top 10 students) in his class of over 800 students.

You just further prove my point. That was as much of a hit story as Rather’s “fake but accurate” claim on Bush. The author is hysterically running around obscuring specifics and throwing mud wherever possible, to gloss over a few truths behind the ADHD scam.

Osteopath - http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/system/doctor/osteopath.html
They are not witch doctors, you know. In fact, the article you cite is so stupid because an osteopath IS a medical doctor, certified and licensed by state boards.

Breggin - a licensed psychiatrist, also a medical doctor
http://www.breggin.com/
If you think electroshock and lobotomies are legitimate forms of psychiatric treatment, then by all means put down Peter Breggin. If you think the fact that all school shooters were either on or coming off of psychiatric drugs is mere coincidence, by all means stuck your head in the sand and don’t read anything on the drug bottle’s warning labels.
Here, I’ll make it easy for you to do some research:
http://www.breggin.com/Newstimulants.pdf

Do you in fact know how ADHD/ADD came to be a diagnosis ?
http://www.adhdfraud.org/history_of_the_fraud_of_biological_psychiatry.htm

Get an education, lady. You are as closed-minded as they come. Read these people, and others like them, and stop trying to seem informed about something you refuse to face.

In short, ADHD/ADD diagnoses are as valid as Albore’s claims of man-made global warming.
