Litvinenko: clues point to Kremlin
Times UK ^ | 22 July 2007 | David Leppard and Mark Franchetti

THE senior British official was unequivocal. The murder of the former KGB man Alexander Litvinenko was “undeniably state-sponsored terrorism on Moscow’s part. That is the view at the highest levels of the British government”.

This official had access to the latest police and intelligence findings, and he was reflecting the views of senior Home Office counter-terrorism officials, Scotland Yard detectives and others with close knowledge of the murder investigation. All confirmed last week that they believe the plot to poison Litvinenko in London last year was ordered by the Russian secret service, the FSB.

In Moscow, strong words were also being used. Russian security circles wanted to intensify the “new cold war” with Britain caused by the murder.

Yet after a round of tit-for-tat expulsions - and the curious incident of the hitman in the Hilton - the heat has gone out of confrontation

The motive appears to be:

"...Last Tuesday night, barely 24 hours after Britain announced its expulsions, a twist to this story began to break: the apparent foiling of a plot to murder the exiled billionaire Boris Berezovsky, Litvinenko’s former patron...

...Britain the largest single investor among G7 countries.

Speaks volumes. The US is 7th overall in investments in Russia last time I looked. That's bound to increase.

Is anyone surprised? How whacked out a leftist nut does one have to be, to have not seen this clearly the day the man's death was reported?

The fact the the fancy poison to kill Mr. Litvinenko was worth $4.5m makes me wonder that it was actually an assasination.

More likely an accident in a smuggling attempt.

That is because you consider your friend as your client. You ask from Russia a lot but gives zero in return.

Wrong there bolshevik boy.
I expect russia to act like a member of civilized society not like the thug they have for what? 100 or so years.
Russia is run by putie Putin an assclown of the former K.G.B. and though the name is different his game is still the same. Kill those who criticize him of his govt.
So keep apologizing for and defending his sorry actions and show your true colours there pal.

The reason that the KGB used polonium-210 is that the British would be fooled into thinking that it was thalium. The British were giving Litvinenko the antidote for two weeks and it wsn't working. He should have died within two weeks because the dose was huge but he survived an extra week due to his extensive exercise regimenHandling it does not effect a human adversely but drinking it means that the person will die and their sweat will leave markers wherever they go.

Litvinenko was murdered because he named the KGB as the sponsors of al-Qaeda and all the terrorism in the world from The Jackal to al-Zawahiri and because he went on Russian TV and accused Putin of crimes. He was working with Berezovky and others who owned TV stations that weren't government controled to maintain the little bit of democracy that existed under Yeltsin. Sadly they failed.

If it was a smuggling operation why would Litvinenko drink it? Handling it doesn't kill you!

The proof is the polonium-210 trail, the fact that over 90% of this element comes from Russia and it is not something that just anyone can hev. The trail shows who had it and where they went and when they put it in Mr. Litvinenko's tea.

Polonium-210 is unmistakable.

There were posted the american company which sells the Polonium-210. I do not remembr the URl but it was there some time ago when Polonium discussion was in high.
It just proves that Polonium-210 is produced not only in Russia but in other places.

Lugvoi tells that he was marked by Polonium particles in order to frame him. And he was marked on Britain soil. since he had no trail until he got into Britain.

Russia high procecutor office offred Britain to try Lugovoi in Russian court. So to present thier evidences and prove thier case. Britain refuses. Why?

It is just the cursings. “Assclown” and so on. Sound like you ar ethe authority who makes the tags for everyone. It has no the sence except showing your frustration. You may be frustrated with Putin. But Putin acts in favor of Russia interests. American president does same for America.
I saw lately that the american president did many things against Russia’ interests. But no one call him the “assclown” for that. It is fair game everyone looks for thier own.

Litvinenko affiliated himself with chechen terrorists. His friend who he met frequantly was Akhmed Zakaev. Litvinenko turned to Islam and was burried in the Muslim cemetary.

What he accused Putin is that he brutally eliminated the Chechen insurgents in Chechnya. As for me I bless Putin for that together with 70% of voters.

The Berezovskii is the just swindler and thief well known in Russia (just one example: LogoVAZ swindle in 1990th). He firstly supported Putin thinking Putin i return will support his swindler business but he mistook Putin. So he hates him for that very much.
