Nobody has said that the kids shouldn’t be punished. They should be punished in a way to teach them that you can’t go around popping girls behinds.
Every generation from the dawn of mankind has done this horseplay so its not a new thing that is the sign of the times.
Kids mess up and do things they aren’t supposed to. They should be punished so that they will know that is unacceptable behavior. Not labled for the rest of their lives.
I can’t imagine these boys in 30 years. Being accountants, teachers, engineers, maybe even preachers with families of their own, having to register as a sex offender because they popped a girl on the butt in the schoolyard at age 13.

McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry should get 10 years.

I remember another girl and I doing this same kind of behavior with two boys in the halls of our school in the 6th grade. Almost the same age as this group of kids. I think your right—it’s just something silly kids about that age do.

The most appropriate way to handle this is for an older brother to beat the tar out of the little idiot.

Worked on me. Never did that again.

Treating it as a criminal act is ludicrous.

One way to do so is, in fact, to impose draconian sentences so that the word goes out that misbehavior is subject to excessive punishment. That might change things. But if we don't want to do that, it begs the question: "What ought we to do?"

One thing to note. These are 13 year old children. The fact that the principal even had to involve the police shows the lack of maturity on his part. Many worse things happened when I was growing up and I never saw the police in any school my entire K-12 education.

The fact that the police were even involved shows that principal has the maturity level of a 5 year old or lower. Totally pathetic!

Also, it should be noted the girls in this case were doing it to the boys. Nothing has happened to them.

“However, we need to ask ourselves why we have such a coarse culture and why children behave like this, and why parents think it’s no big deal.”

Because it isn’t. Our culture is the most refined in history. Women have rights unknown to past cultures, and to many present ones.

Kids have been horsing around like this since before recorded history. Somehow they survived. I think these kids will too.

Kids do stupid immature things. That's a simple fact of life. There's nothing going on here that a good talking to and a butt whoopin' wouldn't fix in less than 5 minutes.

Had the boys been gay, the school would have funded a club for them.

I think you do have a point there.

I have read about schools teaching kids in GRADE school to explore their sexuality. Telling young girls it’s ok to experiment with same sex relationships.

How very hypocritical.

Disclaimer: I do NOT approve of what these boys have been doing, but kids no longer are taught manners, limits and other important social skills. Most aren't anyway.

Well said! I seriously believe the DA as well as the teachers/staff who were involved should be fired.

“Jeesh! Back when I was in high school the only thing we would get is permanently marked by the football coach/vice principal”

Exactly... A wooden paddle was all that was needed in my day.
I was generally a model of good behavior, but I still met the
flat side of a few paddles, from either a gym coach or principal.

Sheesh!

We used to snap bra-straps; and the teachers would just frown, and tell us to "knock it off."

There is an upside to all this political correctness (though seventh graders should know better — punishment is in order, but ten years is insane): It is victimizing/traumatizing two or three generations of Americans who are going to have little patience with it when they grow up and become voters. And libs are going to pay dearly for that.

I just sent Dennis Prager a link about Jimmy McKenize—in Oregon no less. Bill O’Reilly brought this case up several months ago. Supposedly he’s pedophile that likes to walk around in the nude. Oregon law is such that unless he is getting sexual gratification from it, he can’t be arrested. You can be nude anywhere you want. The story is too old to find a news article but here’s a link about it:

We would run around school popping the girls on the rear. Some would turn around and chase us and beat the crap out of us. Some of the more timid ones would tell the teacher and the teacher would whack us with a yard stick and make us apologize. And that was the end of it.

Whatever happened to calling the other kids' mother to complain? One day in middle school I threw a boy's jock strap down the aisle of the school bus because he had left it in the locker of a girl who was my friend. His mother called my mother, who was usually a buster to sons and daughters alike; but this time my mom could hardly muster up the appropriate stern demeanor...

This is scary. Just this week, my 7 year old son told me of an incident that happened this past school year. (2nd grade) A classmate of his told him that whoever lost an arm wrestling contest they were having was either gay or had to touch a girl’s butt. My son had never heard the term gay and so the other kid explained to him, “it’s when one boy likes another boy”. I did not think I needed to have a conversation at 7 with him about homosexuality since he does'nt even know about heterosexuality yet. I told him that sounded weird to me and he he agreed and said, “yeah I did'nt think that was right”. Anyway, apparently he lost the contest and chose to touch a girl’s butt. WELL, Momma did have a conversation with him on that one and some punishment. In fact, I just went over it again when I read to him this article.

Needless, to say, he has been told he will not be able to play with the above mentioned boy. This kid has been trouble in the past also.

What kind of life gets altered by a butt slap?

The kind that gets sucked into intensive "therapy" from feminazis.
