Filling in on July 17 for Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's Alison Stewart devoted a "Countdown" segment to criticizing the dress Wendy Vitter wore during a July 16 news conference in which her husband, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), admitted to an affair with a prostitute.
With "Fashion Ho-Pas?" emblazoned on-screen (pictured at right), Stewart interviewed Radar Online's Jeff Bercovici, who snarked that Vitter's sartorial choice could mark "a complete reversal of the laws of skankery." [Video (1:37): Real (2.54 MB) and Windows (2.90MB), plus MP3 audio (753 kB)]
Olbermann returned to his program's hosting duties the next day and also hosted the July 19 program before turning over the helm yet again to Stewart for his July 20 show*, despite having had three days to become aware of the "ho-pas" segment, take disciplinary action against Stewart, and make her issue an apology. Olbermann either saw the light or felt the heat over the weekend, apparently, as he issued an apology about one-third of the way through his July 23 program (h/t Ian Schwartz):
"Not only was a series of unfortunate and inappropriate terms used, there is no justification for such a segment devoted to analysis of what a woman-- a victim of her husband's inappropriate behavior-- was wearing in public. The story should not have aired. It should not have been couched in the terms used. It should not have happened, and it won't happen again. So Mrs. Vitter, and to you the viewer, I once again apologize."
*Olbermann did, however, file a report via satellite on the July 20 show from a New York release party for the latest Harry Potter novel.
She’ll never hear the apology
I figured Olbermann would have apologize for not saying it himself.
I remember this flap. I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with Mrs. Vitter’s dress. IT’s hardly the dress of a slut and that skank comment was so mean.
Talk about kicking someone when they’re down!
alison stewart.....affirmative action ~ able to use ho-pas....
how would it play if imus used the term???
where is rev run al?...where is hymie town jesse?...how come not a word from the lib/dem msm???
The amazing thing is Olbermann actually issued an apology. Wonder what the network held over his head?
Olbermann’s delay in issuing an apology is most likely due to his frantically searching for the same style dress in his size, with matching hat.
Olbermann gives hope to all those with a room temperature IQ that they too, might one day get to host a cable snooze program on PMSNBC.
The outfit that Stewart is wearing is far more questionable than Mrs. Vitters. It borders on tacky.
That Alison Stewart is a vicious little bee-yotch.
I hope her TV career ends sooner rather than later.
Apology accepted, even though it is transparently dishonest and in violation of every liberal principle.
But we’re decent people who will accept the apology.
The delay is because Olbermann doesn't believe anythign was wrong with what was said.
If Alison Stewart had called Wendy Vitter nappy-headed during the segment, would she be fired like Don Imus? I guess not. Apparently “ho” is acceptable in this case, but nappy-headed is where Imus crossed the line.
Here's betting that the only "light" Olbermann saw was the blaze from "feeling the heat".

UTTERLY CLASSLESS
MSNBC is skankier than Paris Hilton’s underwear on the floor of a gas station rest stop.
beats me why kietho didn’t just invite his whole audience down to starbucks, buy em a cuppa and apologize to them individually and in person......
uh, waiter....that’ll be 10 lattes pleeze...
So THAT’S where she lost them. Someone better Tell her. I’m sure she’d appreciate it.
I stopped watching TV in 2000. Looks like I haven’t missed anything.
I think the delay was due to the fact that it happened on MSNBC and nobody, not even the hosts, watch that channel. This is the first I heard of it. And I don’t see anything wrong with the dress. Perplexing all the way around.
Shoot Stewart and KO. P’sOS!
“So Mrs. Vitter, and to you the viewer, “
At least he knows he only has one viewer.
Alison Stewart is a mean, vicious leftist, just like her boss, Olberman and Abrahams.....they must have all been brought up in barns, because they have NO MANNERS.
Makes sense to me. Nobody watched Olbermann when he’s not on vacation so it’s likely only 10 or so people saw this tasteless display live and thus it took a week to generate any reaction at all. Way to get some press MSNBC, any press at all.
