President Vladimir Putin said last month that although the 1937 purge was one of the most notorious episodes of the Stalin era, no one should try to make Russia feel guilty about it because "in other countries even worse things happened."

Good one Vlad.

Putin, suggested the United States' use of atomic weapons against Japan at the end of World War II was worse.

Only those with a "D" after their name, in academentia and old media agree.

Large-scale arrests of Communist Party members began in 1934 and seemed to reach a crescendo in 1936-37

The only silver lining to an otherwise very dark clould - some of those who lost their lives were fellow communist bastards.

It was an Evil Empire.
And could be on the fast-track to regain that status.

I heard that Putin is thinking about bringing back the 1917 revolution day to “Inspire pride within the Russian people”.

Stalin lived as a Russian, spoke Russian, and embraced the Russian culture. Therefore, he was a Russian.

The Soviet Union wanted to invade Japan itself. We stopped that by making Japan surrender with the Atomic bombs.
