The marketing experts at Macy's are so dense they actually came up with the bright idea to sell a T-shirt with the logo, "Brown is the New White."
Who did the marketing research for Macy's, the KKK? The slogan "Brown is the New White" implies that Hispanics should attempt to pass for white. The not to subtle message is that being white is the ideal, and non-whites should strive to be like the Caucasian majority.
I'm a fair skinned Latino and I could easily pass for white, but I would never betray my racial heritage. Latinos, of all skin hues, are proud of who we are, and we want to be accepted as we are.
The motto "Brown is the new White" also implies that whites are the original occupants of America and Hispanics and other minorities are Johnny-come-latelies. Hispanics were thriving in California and in the Southwest centuries before Europeans set foot in America. If anything, the T-Shirt should be emblazoned with the catch phrase, "White is the New Brown."
Macy's doesn't know its market, in order not to repeat such a stupid mistake they should hire more Hispanics to fill corporate positions.

That is offensive. Color is not important. It’s more important that we invite and assume people who can give allegiance to our country and like our cultural ideals.
Let's examine this statement. "Hispanic" means "of Spanish descent." And Spain is part of Europe. So how did people of Spanish descent get to be "thriving in California and the Southwest centuries before Europeans set foot in America"? There is a little deficit in logic here. Now if the author means that Indian people were thriving here long before Europeans showed up, I can agree, but he doesn't identify himself as an Indian, only as Hispanic.
If all “Latinos” of any skin color are a “race”, are all English speaking people a race too? Are Jamiacans “Anglos”? If I had moved to Costa Rico and raised my kids speaking Spanish, would they have changed races and become Latinos? Would that be betraying their racial heritage? It’s very confusing.
It is. Now if they will take the logo off; I will buy as I look very good in brown.
Also, Ronald Reagan was one of the few Presidents to wear brown often. He looked good in the color too.
well...that is the objective....very few hispanics..brown or otherwise even Cubans who don't line up strictly because they are other hispanics (the illegals)

hell...it already is....look how most folks on a conservative forum preen over how sensitive they are to it.....folks here stumble over themselves more often than not to show how open minded they are about anything ethnic....being called racist is a bigger fear for white folks today than death by hanging

Hispanics weren't thriving. They made a mess of things in America
The Anglos built America. Not the Hispanics. The definition of Anglo has changed through the years but I define them as Northern Europeans, mostly Anglo-Celt and Protestant. Catholics and Jews came later
